Stray Cats-- Need Help

So I'm in need of some advice. We have a pack of stray cats in our neighborhood that have unfortunately decided to use the area below our deck as their bathroom. They're shitting everywhere, and aside from the smell, now we've got a fly problem to boot.

Does anyone have any advice for getting rid of stray cats that won't get me in trouble with PETA?

A few ideas:

motion sensor sprinkler.. cats hate to get wet.
cats hate pepper.. go to sams club or what have you and get a s*** ton of pepper, red pepper flakes, or chili powder... sprinkle in the yard liberally.

they also have all sorts of sprays and ultrasonic devices that you can use, but I'm not sure those work.

the sent of oranges is rumored to bother cats.
orange peals, orange air fresheners, etc.

but i'll tell you, cats are persistant and resilient.

Tooth Paste or Mint Favor Mouth Wash.
I think you have atleast one of those at your home right?
Please don't tell me you never use one of those.

ive just been told, by over the shoulder readers hot pepper works the best.

edit: if it rains u have to redo it but under a deck you should be ok.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'll try the hot pepper/ chili powder / red pepper flakes. As for the motion sensor spinklers, that sounds quite expensive, although would work no doubt.

I'll also run to home depot and buy some porch latticing to fence in the bottom of the deck.

On a side note, I heard that ammonia will keep them away. True? Anyone have other ideas?

These guys????

^^ You can probably just call their Moms, tell them these guys are pissing you off and that will surely get rid of them.

Not yet. But for some reason I get the feeling it wouldn't make a difference-- kind of like there's an endless supply of strays somewhere that will take up their turf once they're gone. But yeah, that's a last resort.

that should be the first resort, since thats their job lol and if they cant take care of it then you should seek alternatives

We had a stray in our yard and i let the dogs out and they chased it up a tree...so i got out the hose and started spraying it until it was good and soaked and ran away

this is the same cat that a few days previous to that thought it would be ok for him to hang out in my garage...yea, i threw a cup of water at him that day...

I never saw him again after the hose incident tho lol

In a way, I don't mind them being on and around the property, so long as they're not rooting through my garbage and shitting underneath my deck-- they keep the mice away (or at least I think so). I just don't know if it's possible to have the best of both worlds.

doubtful...strays are an annoyance...

hahaha. A few times I thought about breaking out my air-soft gun, but the neighbors would go apeshit.
