Hello i am new here i have a black 04 3 and my husband has a turbo p5 while driving the other day he noticed that the air/fuel gauge doesnt peg full rich until at or around 4k rpms. It only happens when its not full throttle and is in boost if he is driving it hard all the way from first to fifth then its full rich is this normal for the mazdaspeed tune?

second does anyone know where i can get some black tail lights for my 04 3 sedan?

thank you
Ashley

what ecu is your husband using? what other fuel/timing controller does he have?

does he have a wideband gauge or are you referring to a narrowband gauge (lightshow) that "pegs" rich?

its been awhile since i was on the stock tune, but from what i can recall, the mazdaspeed protege ecu runs pig rich just about anytime you go WOT.

He just got back from work and told me its its the AEM UEGO wideband and i know he has the Split Second but no map loaded on it so he is just using his MSP ecu to control fuel. If she drives hard enough to go into boost i guess partial throttle it reads in the yellow (he said stoich). If he mashes it then it will sit there for a sec and then read 10.0. He doesnt think this is normal

reading 10 (pig rich) is perfectly normal for the msp ecu. the ecu came with poor maps from the factory.

what boost is he running? this will also obviously make a difference on the a/f measurement.

at partial throttle, what boost is he running and what does the wideband read (numbers wise)?

again, the msp ecu is a poor solution to tuning. So as long as the a/f is "safe," then you cant expect anymore out of it.

He needs to get the car tuned with the split second controller.

Ok i just got of work my wife had asked for me. Well i would say if i am about to merge on the highway and in 4th or 5th gear and at 3k rpms and speed up i am in the stoich range 14-15.0 and this is when i am boosting about 4-5psi then when it hits 4k or 4.5k rpms it goes all the way to 10.0 on the other hand if i mash the gas 10.0 all gears and the whole rpms range. It just doesnt seem safe to be stoich while im in boost even if it is just partial throttle. Yea i know i need my split second up and running

I wouldn't even try figuring out what the msp ecu is trying to do. For starters don't boost hard in 5th ever...it's extremely hard on the weak rods! Ease into it or downshift.

Sounds like it's slow coming out of closed loop or maybe your primary 02 sensor is on it's way out or maf. Get in on the SS afc thread and get that thing running to see what's really going on.

Yea i dont think ive had a new o2 since i have had the car i bought it about 3 years ago used so who knows how long its been inthere and as for the maf it just got replaced about 5 months ill look into the aa afc thread thanks.

Get a base map off the forums and download it to the ss afc. That should be a great starting point to a tune. That will fix the ratios.
