Has anyone here ever done the stock pistons & forged rods combo? Can this setup net 250 reliable horses?

Wiseco vs CP pistons?

Not that I have read. Most people from my understandings go ahead and just replace the pistons to while they are in the motor.

YP5TO did exactly that and Boosted fine to 12 PSI until he sold his car.. After that I have no idea.

He did it so that he could save a ton of money with the engine work. He was able to do the install with the engine still in the car.

You must know however, that there is a pair of 10mm bolts inside the Clutch Bell that will prevent you from being able to simply take the Windage tray off (Which is Required)

If you need to do the clutch, I suggest taking the engine out and doing this out of the car.

i also suggest that for $400.00 for the pistons you should look into doing them and some basic machine work all at once.

my understanding with this was that while it would work, mating the rod to the piston was a major pain in the ass.
also, this debate has been done over and over, but why would you risk not prepping the engine for the new parts?
like replacing piston rings and doing sandblasting to the block

my current ring(s) are done for. I'll talk some more to the builder about a proper rebuild. I really didn't wanna have to do this until the car was paid off, which is why I'm looking for cheaper options

If the Rings are DONE... Then the Block is DONE and you would need as a minimum to resurface it to get any typ of compression...

To do that the Oil Spray Jets have to be removed and can only really be put in with a press... Which means Engine Out.

When it is out, Do the whole meal deal...

not that I dont think you should build your motor, but if you are running low on cash maybe just swap in a replacement fsde and save to rebuild your current motor since it would be out of the car on a stand. then you can take your time and hunt deals on parts/services.

::zombie-thread::

I'm seriously considering going with just forged rods... I'm running 12.5psi currently. I have an extra FS for this reason. I'm really not sure why I wouldn't do this. I think the OE pistons can take 15psi, but the rods would never, in a million years, do that...

i agree with what these other peeps are sayin just get a cheap fs replacement for the time being so ur car still runs than save up. This is what i did and im thankfull it took almost 6 months of my engine being in the machine shop lol

I agree that if your plan to never boost large, but want to maintain reliable daily driven power. This would be a good option.

As I stated- I have another engine. But WHY use aftermarket pistons?

i still feel aftermarket pistons would be allot stronger for higherboost i guess factory will probabley work fine though no sence in wasting money if you dont need to

i understand the cheap route but this has been said to detah but it applies to this thread
CHEAP, FAST & RELIABLE - PICK TWO

while you save a little money on the build, you will be stock at 15PSI. it will kill your chances of ever going bigger.
future proof the engine once.

it takes a lot of work to swap out engines, why do it twice?
just hold on to that money and you'll thank yourself later.
do it properly ONCE.

So it turns out it wasn't so much bad rings as it was spark plug bits making sweet love to the top of the piston and cylinder wall. Forged now by the way.
