Stock Pistons, Forged Rods?

On my next trip down 75S to S. Florida I'm going to make sure I visit all the Georgia/Florida people- You'll be one of the first on that list...

I have friends down there that I visit a couple of times a year. Half of the MSPers live in Florida it seems. That and Canada.

Got another quick question, was thinking of buying a used set of wiseco pistons and pauter rods and didn't know if it was a smart choice. Also if I needed new piston rings and wrist pins where would I get them? Reason for going used is because it's about $1000 cheaper for the set.

They look like they're in fairly good shape as far as I can tell. I need to go forged to make the most of the GT3071 I'm running but didn't want to go about it the wrong way. I would love to buy new but if these will work then it'll make my life a whole lot better.

I'll try and call Wiseco to get a quote but would anybody have a general idea of how much they would run?

i was running a stock engine running 10psi in a 3" intake, my rod held up fine but a dropped an intake valve which got stuck in an exhuast port which broke my rod and piston and cracked my block

im not sure what caused it, my O2 gauge crapped out but i had my haltech was tuned so i really dont believe it detonated

Damn man that sucks. I don't plan on running anything more than 8psi until I go fully forged. The stock rods would probably hold up to that but I'm being cautious because the engine and tranny have over 200K miles on them and until 6 months ago was sitting for almost 2 years.

Main problem I'm having is I've never built a motor myself and I have NO one that can really help. Plus is my DD, but I have backups.

as much as i play with my DD i would advise you not to

i think i may of had a defective valve, all my other valves looked flawless

i had 42k miles and i babied it alot

Well I'm not too worried because like I said I have backups. I have 2 other cars and a motorcycle so it wouldn't be too much of a hassle. The only thing that sucks is that I've been installing a completely custom turbo setup for the last month including the need to wire up the Haltech that arrives today. So if I continue on with the forged build then who knows how long until I get my car back.

But now that I look at it, I can see how saying it's my DD would probably be kind of inaccurate. Makes it seem as if I have no other options. Sorry for that.

Thanks, would you so happen to know how much wrist pins would be off the top of your head?

You may not need them to be honest but to find out you will have to have the hole in the piston for the wristpin measured to know what size if you do end up needing new ones. If you do get new ones make sure they are the heavy duty ones not standard
