What up guys, Just wanted to talk about the SRT....
I was reading on WWW.NEONS.ORG site & some
poeple already have the car & are racing around
FL. with it....
I remember reading a mag. ones & the MSP came in
second right behind the SRT. It took some time
on some twisty roads for the SRT to gain room
between them. I know in the strait we have no
chance, but things change alittle when the road
turns. I'm sure this has been talked about before,
but now the car has hit the US & soon enough we
should see them around.... I think we'll see them
more often then the MSP ( first MPS's at least ).

What do you guys think? Maybe with 210 or 220
to the wheels ( if we can manage that ) we'll have
a better chance.... They seem to compare the car
with the WRX more, so I don't get it, power yes, but
the WRX is 4wd. Also price is closer to us.

I don't race my MSP on the streets ( to many tickets
with past cars ), but I would love to go to the track
& I'm thinking I'll have to run with the SRT some time.
So I guess I just like to know what's the comp. out there.....
Plus I have a friend looking to get one, this will be his first
car, first stick. I told him the car may be to powerful for him
& he should go real slow at first, but I know him & he'll want
to feel out the speed..... He also thinks he'll kill me if we ever
line up....
Just making conversation guys.....

I think that many people are writing the SRT4's handling and braking off. It will outhandle and brake 99% of the cars in it's class, and with a little -camber on the fronts and maybe 1inch lower I wouldn't doubt it would match or come closer to the MSP.
Your friend should be careful for sure, try and talk him into an autoX training course! It will do wonders for his street and competition skills.
It is a great time to be into these cars, lot's of companies are stepping things up.

No Doubt the neon handle's nice with it's setup out the box,
but being that I have a MSP, I like to think our setup is better.
I hear neons do great in road racing. I also thought it sat up
to high, lowering it should make for some nice handling as well
as better looks. This was one of the first Mods I suggested to my firend.

i stil think the MSP has better handing IN STOCK FORM. you cant start comparing modded cars to stock factory cars. straight off the truck, i will put money on the handling and suspension of the MSP over the SRT4.

or it could be that i just need something to hold on to...all we got is handling...if someone takes that away from us...were nothing...NOTHING SAYS I>>>>>NOTHING AT ALL!!!!

A friend of mine drove an automatic for several years with his first car. Two years ago he decided out the blue to get a standard. Never practiced it, never knew exactly how to work it... but he decided to get a car with stick shift anyways. It took him a short time, maybe a week, to get it down right.... so your friend may feel awkward at first, but then once he gets used to that SRT... I don't think he'll ever go back to auto unless under extreme conditions. (thumb)

:D Agreed. If things go sideways with the SRT4 for me I have a backup plan.....MSP :D

the power difference aside....the MSP is hands down a better all round car.....

how many of you have seen the SRT up close and personal? I have.....the fit and finish of the interior is just not getting it, it looks very CHEAP.....and its fairly bare....very sparce.....the MSP, along with all proteges, are very much in a class above the SRT for how the interior looks and feels.....

Just MY .02

i don't think the interior of the srt4 is cheap...the seats alone are badass, and offer the much needed support mazda has yet to provide in a stock 3rd gen pro.

Power fronts, the rears only open half way(child safe) so they decided not to have power rears.

the power difference aside....the MSP is hands down a better all round car.....

Interesting, so you have sat in a 03 production vehicle? And by that you can say it is an all round better car?

I sat in the yellow SRT in Detroit and I have to say that it looked like a piece of crap. It was cheap looking inside and out. The reason why it is so cheap is because it is cheap. The workmanship and refinement is not there. Most of the knobs and switches were torn off the car. The engine compartment looked hacked. It looked like the turbo was installed in the basement of some chop shop. Not only that there were farm animals on the steering wheel and hood. Ram tough.......what up with that?....that is just stupid.

I understand that the SRT can kick the MSP's ass but I would rather have a complete package of looks, handling and power that I get from the Speed. The Neon (Hi) is just not cutting it in my book....sorry, buster.(Bye)

Just my $.02.

..Wrong forum. There isn't one thing that impresses about any Dodge, except the Viper. I could care less how fast the SRT is. Any car can be fast. That's all I have to say on this subject.

Car and Driver (on TV) said that if you want to go fast in a straight line, and beat virtually every car you come up against in the daily "stop light drag race", get the SRT-4, but if you want something that you can actually live with and enjoy driving, get the Mazdaspeed Protege.

They also made mention that the exhaust on the SRT-4 is so loud that it might draw complaints from neighbors in most neighborhoods. And the "functional hood scoop" is indeed functional, if the function was to blow air on the valve cover .

MSP = refined all-around sports sedan, daily driver
SRT-4 = sport compact drag car, take it to the track Friday night

Are you sure the exhuast is 'that' loud? No production car i've heard from stock form is 'that' loud...
I wish our MSP RB was louder though... Maybe it can be done by removing the resonator?:)

Maybe you should go join clubrsx, your attitude would fit right in, which actually makes me wobder why you didn't buy a RSX? Did you know that in JD power initial quality the Neon rates MUCH higher than the protege? Right your car isn't a Protege thought, its a MSP, the Ferrari of sport compacts...
