SR20 in an MSP...

beh nowadays any motor can be forged to handle that level. just costs money. 3sgte is nice though but big power is nothing now a days, just takes big wallet, nothing really impressive about it. Im more impressed by its capability to handle something like ~400whp stock.

Yep, I used to have a 3rd gen 3sgte in my mr2, it made 260hp in stock trim, sporting a healthy turbo, and VVTI. It was a blast. I have always been suprised by how many people are not familiar with this great motor. Oh and they also came in the Japanese model IS 300 (alteza).

isn't atezza a brand of tailights?
why would they name a car after some tailights?

its the other way around if you look at the stock is300 taillights they look like those taillights. Well over in japan the is300 is called an altezza which is also the first car to have those style lights and hence the name was spawned altezza taillights.

so anyway slightly back on topic i have two questions/comments. The SR20 that you have in your possesion now what car is it out of? only reason i ask is i highly suggest getting the pulsar GTiR version as it uses individual throttle bodies. Two other engines that i thought of may be a good swap and something to toy around with so you dont have to deal with the use of a turbo are the Nissan SR20-VE and the Toyota 3S-GE BEAMS black top engines. Both engines make about the same if not more than their turbo counterparts and in researching they offered a sr20-vet with 280hp out of the box

It'll be helluva lot of work, and you're going to want to run a standalone.

no not the pulsar version alhtough it would be awesome to get it. and yeah i know about the ve and i could turbo it, but th eprice was nearly free for my det so i won't complain. and i know it runs awesome since my buddy's car is what it came out of. ill be getting the aem ems for it all too. i have a pretty large list of what ill need to be getting, and its getting expensive, but the outcome will be awesome!! lol.

instead of the AEM to keep costs down look into megasquirt

yes and i wouldnt mind doing the gtir itb motor. but i got my motor for nearly free, like $100 nearly free and it runs perfect with perfect compression. i'd like to kind of get it done "cheap" and maybe sway motors at the end of next winter when ill be wanting more power. megasquirt is something i already looked at and i have a buddy thats big in the electrical engineering major so ill have some help if i go that route, but that'll only be if i really need to. a local company wants me to go awd with it and their ready to help and make it happen, they say for about 4g's lol...but one project at a time with this beast...anyway, im trying to find a full wire harness for cheap right now.

i have had quite the education in this stuff over the past 3 years just seeing things i thought i would never see but thats what happens when living in east bumblefuck NJ and moving to the ATL.

And good call on not doing the AWD right away i think it would be alot harded than 4k worth of work and its just one more thing to worry about. If you are looking for a wiring harness give these guys a call we deal with them exclusivly for engines at my dealership and have gotten numerous JDM swaps and half cuts through them: http://www.jarcoinc.com/

wouldnt a SER out of a b13 help you out....
they arent hard to splice... easy to find runn about 150.00

currently doing a full build on my boys b13 gti-r swap... b4 that on the stok gti-r rann a 13 flat at 12 psi.... (traction problems one wheel limp)

Shadow i kno wat you mean about N.J.

I ALREADY HAVE A MOTOR!!!!! lol...and the ser b13 motor has higher compression and not built like a det. although my buddy's car we boosted it 20psi tuned on a t3/t04e on stock internals which is nearly unheard of at the 10.3 or something compression with stock internals....but anyway, i already have the det and that's what ill be using. and yeah 4k for an awd build sounds a little cheap but there master fabricators and im in close with them which could've influenced that. as for the wiring harness there's suupposedly a few people that have it complete and somewhat local but if it doesn't work ill check that site out thanks much!

I may be reading it wrong but i think he is suggesting you use a wiring harness from a SER since it uses the SR.

ah got ya on that one. i wouldn't see why it wouldn't work, ill have to find out asap cuz i know where a wrecked ser is lol.

is the sr motor red top or black top? My boss has a 91 240sx with a sr20 motor. he has the cleanest swap you will ever see. He is going to hit 12.9 on stock tires easily on stock turbo. It has the nicest everything, on stock sr20 motor and turbo. After he hits 12.9 he is putting in his new turbo. He ran 13.1 on bald wall mart tires that are skinny as hell. My other coworker/boss has a 240sx and is about 70% done his ls1 swap. Should be a low 12 second car on stock motor and street tires. If I were you id just sell the msp and buy a 240 to put it in lol

the FWD and RWD SR20's are different so thats not a viable choice...and as far as i know (ie i could be wrong) but there were no black top FWD SR's

you are right shadow. The SR20 fwd was an N/A motor out of the old SER sentra's. they have diff everything compared to the SR20det in the Silvia's. I though of doing that swap for my p5. Its still a great motor and once turbo'ed it can do a lot of damage. I say good luck and anything is possible.

so there was a FWD 240sx?

?? huh the 240SX, 180sx, silvia and other such variants were always FR. However nissan, like they do now, use their engines across the model range. Over here the Sentra/200sx SE-r b13 and b14 chassis got the sr20de. In other parts of the world cars such as the bluebird, avenir, and pulsar GTiR got FWD/AWD versions of the SR20DET engines the pulsar being the most desirable due to the individual throttle body intake manifold and if you manage to get your hands on the car it is a pocket rocket with AWD. The FF SR20 engines are NOT interchangable with the rear wheel drive version due to the bell housing bolts and i believe other things are different including the manifold directions and such. The latest and great SR20 variant are the VE series that have variable valve timing. The NA version puts out a little over 200hp and the VET engine only available in nissans new SUV (think Nissans version of the CX-7) puts out 280hp

yes you are right. my motor i have is out of an obd1 sr20det, and the wire harness i can get for dirt cheap is also of obd1, i want to find an obd2 harness though to make it easier, im trying to find out if the obd1/2 sr20's have anything different that i can't interchange on the shortblock assembly.
