Spin-on ready for the next oil change

Has anyone while doing this had the 2 back bolts on it... have they been stuck on there. I have tried extension..WD40... its taken me a good 45 mins to a hour working on this nut and it just wont bust (no pun intended). I really dont wanna break it off cause that would suck hardcore. Thing is really pissing me off thats all I know. Its like every time I get the socket or the open ended wrench on it.. it wants to start stripping it.

Just a thought, I do not know what you are using, but 6 point sockets work much better than 12 point sockets.

Ok im about to install mine. No one has mentioned the torque for the 4 bolts that go on the block? I dont want to over tighten or have them too loose.

Sorry, I forgot to post it last night...

Here it is:
Bolts from oil filter adapter to block: 20-30 N.m {14.8-22.1 ft.lbf}
Oil cooler bolt: 34-40 N.m {26-29 ft.lbf}

It will be a few thousand miles before I change my oil and do the install. I do not think the spin on is much longer, if any , than the stock cartridge housing and certainly not deeper than the oil pan. The stock tribute filter is shorter if you are concerned.

so basically you didn't need to cut a hole in the skid plate to fit this huge filter in? thanks for the wix part number, i'll be getting a bunch of these!

i found this part at protege garage and i must say, installation was a breeze. it was quick and easy. i am very satisfied with it.

What car(s) is the spin-on housing actually from?

I find it much cheaper to purchase these at discount through my contacts, but they need to know part numbers or at least what car it is off, so they can pull me a price for the housing and gasket.

Any help is appreciated, I am in bad need of an oil change and want to get this done along with a T so I can finally hook up my OP gauge.

its like a 03 mazda3 2.0. i think it was like 36 bux total at my local mazda dealership. they even had it the next day for me.

install was extremely easy. if you can do an oil change, this is one extra step. give yourself an extra 5-15 min of time on top of your oil change time. very easy.

well they didn't make Mazda3s in 2003 ;) and that will only work on non-turbo mazda3s, not the mazdaspeed3. the parts you need for the mazdaspeed3 are from the newer 4cyl tribute.

im just a n/a 2.3. he just asked what the spin on filters were off of, i didnt know the MS's were different, and he didnt mention it.

and i wasnt sure ont he year, i just know i buy the filters for the 1st year 3 in the filter book, and its the one that has worked. lol

part number for the filter starts with the LF05 now. the equivalent K&N filter is an HP1002

This looks very interesting and i'd like to do it but am having trouble finding the link for the part. could someone kindly direct a lost traveler? how much bigger is the new spin-on filter vs the standard?

(bang)and to those who've tried it and put some miles on it, does it help w/ the oil turning black as midnight in a coal mine after a lousy 500 miles? any help is much appreciated.

(bang) That is me with this conversion. Why is something so simple still fighting me. I refuse to take it to a mechanic. Can somebody give me a step by step instruction on how to install this? I hate using the conversion kit as a paper weight.

its litterally like 4 bolts. just unbolt the adapter attatched to the block, clean the surface, install new adapter. if you own a ratchet set. you can do this.

ill even go as far to say, id trust my fiance to do this with me supervising.

I know that. How do you get the black piece off the top? That is what giving me the bulk of the problems.

I installed the spin on for my 2.3l Mz3 a couple of months ago. 10k miles later and haven't had any problems. I ordered my kit from PG.

Thank you. That is the help I might have been looking for. I will try this weekend.

Trust me...it is.
Just put the closed in over the bolt and hold it with your left hand.
You will probably need to tap the open with a hammer cause the bolt is tight.
By steading it with your left hand the wrence will stay on the bolt squarely.
I had zero issues doing it this way.
Good luck!!
