Spin-on ready for the next oil change

Here are the part numbers for amsoil / wix filters via www.amsoil.com:

Amsoil absolute efficiency filter for 2006 tribute: EAO33 $15.95

WIX oil filter for 2006 tribute: 51215-EA $7.95

Amsoil absolute efficiency oil filter for B3000 pickup: EAO34-EA $17.30

WIX oil filter for B3000: 51516-EA $6.95

Or you can probably use any other brand of oil filter for these two vehicles. Personally I dig the amsoil filters even though they are a little more expensive, they provide amazingly good filtration, my oil stays a gold / amber color for about 7000 miles. The WIX filters are great as well. I don't know if they protect for as long of an interval but they also provide great filtration. I used the wix insert for the cartridge before I switched to spin on.

The filters for the tribute are a little smaller than the filters for the B3000 pickup. I am not 100% clear on what gains you would get by going with a larger filter.

Hope this helps!

Wow, thanks a lot!!!!

In your opinion, is it really worth double the price for the Amsoil filter?
I have noticed how quickly my oil turns color. I would love to use a filter that extends the life/color of new oil. What is so special about the Amsoil vs. Wix? I thought they were the same filter, just different name.

Thanks again though...

Uhm... I'm incredibly susceptible to marketing ploys?
I doubt theres a noticeable difference between the two. I get a good discount on the amsoil filters b/c I am a preferred customer, and amsoil filters I think will last a little longer. Or so they claim. Wix might last just as long, I'm not really sure. Maybe I'm overpaying.

Next oil change I'm throwing a wix on there to see how it does, and since they are made here in NC like 30 mins from my house, it'd be good to support them.

I have had my conversion kit for a while. It's not installed because for something so simple looking, I was having issues installing it and I stopped so I would screw something up. Somebody give me some hints on how to put this thing on. The cartridge setup is getting on my last nerve.

So who is making the OEM Mazda filters? If I go get an oil change at the dealership, which filter am I actually getting?

we do carry the oil sandwich plates as well from prosport

Thanks guys!

...to enganear for creating this thread and reminding me how useful a spin-on filter would be

...and to Ken for taking enganear's suggestions and allowing me to purchase a filterless conversion kit and a sandwich plate for discounted prices with free shipping!

Order placed! My woes of how to mount my oil pressure sender to a canister filter are no more (alright)

What kind of discount do you get by being a preferred customer...if I may ask.

Couple of bucks. I think its like $3-4 on the filters. Its a pretty significant discount. You pay like $25 for the year, but on my first order, the discounts on the various things I ordered ended up saving me more than $25. Totally worth it if you are a repeat customer.

Ok im about to install mine. No one has mentioned the torque for the 4 bolts that go on the block? I dont want to over tighten or have them too loose.

the one listed on Prosport's website for 'most mazdas' is not correct. we tried that one and the thread pitch is off. i have to contact Prosport and see what they are selling that works.

Tenacious, whats your order number

does anyone else besides prosport make sandwich plates that will fit the oil conversion kit?

I'm in limbo on this too. I ordered a plate from Ken back in Feb and was bummed to hear it wouldn't fit. Just treading water until Prosport or someone else makes a good one...

edit: an industrious machinist with a lathe and some spare aluminum round stock could probably clean up making these things. Would only take a few minutes of time, esp on a CNC if anyone has access thru their school or something. Would just need to know the correct pitch, and if any features need to be machined into the surface that mates with the block. Bore out some NPT threads and there's your sandwich plate!

Sadly, I have neither the time, nor the resources, much less the ability to pull that off :)

prosport does make one that fits, i know several people are running one now...

it probably doesn't apply, but since since the quality is iffy on prosport gauges, i figured their plate might be iffy too.

we have the correct model in stock. the quality of the unit is good, it is not something they produce themselves, just private made then relabeled.

Has anyone while doing this had the 2 back bolts on it... have they been stuck on there. I have tried extension..WD40... its taken me a good 45 mins to a hour working on this nut and it just wont bust (no pun intended). I really dont wanna break it off cause that would suck hardcore. Thing is really pissing me off thats all I know. Its like every time I get the socket or the open ended wrench on it.. it wants to start stripping it.
