Speedometer problems

323f 2,0 ditd
a few days ago when I drove up the highway with about 130 km/h my speedometer dropped suddenly to zero and milage counter stopped too. I have since unsuccessfully tried to find the error. The car is a 323f 2.0 ditd from 2000 and as far as I can understand you get the signal from the abs module. There appears to be no problems with the abs brakes (light comes on and off again as it should and by heavy braking on slippery surfaces the system feels as it should.). I have also tried to test the speedometer with dtc 12 and it goes right to 240 and back to 60 km/h like the manual says it should. But when I test the speed signal dtc 10, nothing happens.
Has anyone tried anything similar or have an idea for what could be wrong?

Sorry. That is a new one and it sounds like you did excellent troubleshooting. i have nothing to add...

Not that I was doing 130 in my beat up truck a few years back, but my speedometer and mileage /tripometer stopped working and i drove like that for a little while. Tried to guage my speed on the highway, and thankfully never got a ticket.

Anyways, turned out to be the cable or wireless reader between the speedometer and transmission. Apparently something between the two rusted out after 9 or 10 years and broke and needed replacing. the only thing on the dash working was the RPM and fuel guage.

Okay sounds like I just have to keep on looking. Is there anyway check the signal to the speedo ? Is it a pulse or is it just 1-10V or what should the signal be ?
