2004 Nissan Sentra SE-R SpecV
Haven't been on the forums in a while, thought I'd get back into the swing of things around here and give an update. So I blew my first engine..damn precat breakup, but new engine for free is nice :) That goes in this week, along with new header, short shifter, and motor mount inserts. I just dropped it with Eibach Sportlines, installed the N1 catback, shaved the front grille, and installed the custom front lip. Hopefully I'll be back on the road this weekend.

Hey Riles, when r ya coming back to Jersey? Let me know!

Lol, yea I wish. I'll never be as attractive as an MSP, but at least it's a helluva lot better than stock

Put the Nissan badge back on the grill. It looks like someone stole it with the plastic still there and the badge gone.

Hmm... Actually, if you put a little peice of plastic, about a quarter or so inch thick, to raise up the 'bucktooth' a little, then painted/clearcoated the panel to match, it would look pretty cool, I bet!

Actually, the Specs have an issue with precat breakup, and have a tendency to suck the precat material back up into the engine, from what I gather. I have a local friend who owns a Spec (Kinematics on the Spec forums, I think, or KinematicsFX), and he got a header, right off, due to those problems.

Yeah but you guys have much better engines to work with from what I understand(besides this pre-cat problem). I test drove a spec-v and loved how it chirps second in stock form.

Torque. The 100mm stroke is good for that. 100mm by 89mm bore. Unfortunatly, they also have issues with the rods and bearings under high stress, too, from what I gather. Max obtainable redline on stock internals is around 7k, even with proper tuning. And man, you hit that rev limiter as SOON as you skip past the redline, even just a tiny bit.

The tranny is pretty nice, but still felt too loose for me. I didn't like the feel of the Brembo's as much as the feel of the Protege's brakes, and I can easily out-brake my friend's spec. His handles brake fade a touch better than mine, though, which stands to reason.

But man, with his exhaust all done up, that thing pops SO frigging much. Talk about rich tuning. Jeez.

The b**** of it is, despite the longer stroke, it still feels like it revs a lot faster than the Protege. Probably something to do with less cranking weight, even with those heavy balance shafts. Time to shed some weight from my crank, methinks. Damnit.

My professional optionion is that you never do that on a Protege trasmission ever again.

I agree with the input on the grill, overall nice looking vehicle, but the grill looks odd w/o the emblem, and it looks a little recessed under the hood

How the hell are you chirping 3rd gear stock on a MSP, i cant even get 2nd to chirp
Dunno, I can get second to spin for 2-3 tire revolutions...
How high are you shifting and how hard? Chirping gears prolly isn't the best for a car, its not like something I do in daily driving...but it is possible...

...Yeah, I was gonna say... I can spin the ES100's on my N/A Protege5 going into second, you should be able to in a Mazdaspeed.
