soot on exhaust tip

Is it just me or did anyone noticed quite a bit of soot on the exhaust tips? My car is completely stock 1200 miles on the clock, and my tips and bumper are already blackened a little bit. Stock engine runs that rich? I could be a complete moron since this is my first FI car, but i havent really seen that before on other cars I had before.

I noticed a lot on my back hatch (well not a lot but specks of it) and being a white car it's driving me nuts.I've had the car for only a week, so not sure, but will it get better over time?Like less of it as the car gets broken in?

I envy you with your white MS3 and nice AFS xenon headlamp.

Is that true - MS3 with AFS xenon's?

yeah it's true you can see them resetting after coming out of a hard corner...it was kind of funny when I bought it I asked the salesman what the afs off button was and he didn't know so for a few days I'd turn it off and on trying to see what it was doing LOL...finally google was my friend(cheers2)
and the white is so nice in the sun and under lights at night

Doubtful. Its the nature of the car. Runs rich.

I was at my local Mazda dealer and decided to ask the shop manager about the soot and mentioned that they seem to run rich (my P5 was the same way)and he says "there is NO WAY these cars can run rich with the emissions controls and fuel management"...I just laughed at him...he must be right(fuoops)

AFS isn't an option on the MS3 is it? Is yours just a fluke? Or is it a Canada thing?
I would love to have the AFS system (and xenon) on my MS3 - just afraid to see what it would cost to add it.

I monitor the AFR and the command AFR on my MS3 - the computer will target an AFR of under 10:1 at times, so yeah, they run real rich. . .out of boost or low boost, they do real well to stay at stoich, but hit it and it runs pig rich.

AFS Xenon is available EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD EXCEPT US. Good Ol' US of A huh? For some reason we keep getting Dumb'ed down versions of otherwise perfect cars, and it is not only Mazda either. It is universally true for all manufacturers, including Ford and GM. I think the reason is the market everywhere else is much more competitive, and the crowds are more picky. Here, we are just taking whatever we are spoon fed with(chair)

The rich ratio thing, I am getting used to seeing black tips nowadays. This is just one compromise you need to live with having a Direct injected engine with 15psi of boost from stock. Any leaner you run a higher risk of blowing up.

it's weird eh?I was really suprised that my fellow southern brothers also did not have the white available.
You don't have the xenon headlights either? What do you get?
The 2010 speed3 in Canada has no available options it's all stock, including the GPS,push button start (which makes me grin every time),full stereo package...

We basically have the basic package 5 door with the MZR DISI Turbo engine. If you opt for the tech pacakge ( the only option), you have push-stop start, GPS Nav and Bose stereo. Thats it. Headlights are always halogen.

wow I never knew that because I was also looking into buying my car in the states because of the price difference.
That's the thing we have all the options available but with a huge sticker price.
I don't understand why they would not give you guys the headlights though cause that's a big part of the car. That sux man.
It would be interesting to find out what the cost of it is.

I got my base car negotiated at 21850 USD. I bought it earlier this year, and i got a pretty good deal.

What else you Canadians got? Heated leather seats? Sunroof? I mean...seriously. I was saddened to find that there were a few major things missing from the MS3 options list, only to find out that Canada got all the goodies.

Next thing i'm gonna hear is about your MS3's AWD system lol
