solid rotor or slotted rotor ?

I need some advise here.

I need to change my stock rotors. There are two options here. First, Centric solid rotors for $200. Second, Rotora slotted rotors for $315. The price difference is $115. Yes, I do some autoX and track. Has anyone in the forum used Centric rotors before? If yes, how is it? Which one should I get

I attach some pic of the rotor. First pic is centric solid rotor and second pic is rotora slotted rotor.

I've got those rotora's. I love them. Can't say anything about the others though. I say go for the slotted.

yea the slotted rotora are cool... I like how the hubs come painted black on both of those... keep the rust away.

you autocross - slotted without a doubt

you just have to be careful with what stuff they paint on the rotors. some hold in the heat which is bad for rotors and braking in general....

I had slotted rotors on my last car which was a Galant and I loved them just make sure you have good pads because I went through cheap ones like I change underwear.

I'd get the slotted, for the autocross and track, cause they help keep the rotor cool, and prevent warping cause of heat and stuff. It's your best bet to prevent needing to get them machined.

Hmm, seems like I need to get the slotted rotor then :)

But, just for curiousity, has anyone in the forum used Centric rotors? They are pretty cheap but how is the quality? Thanks

Can't say I've ever used them, but a safety item is not some place I'd want to go cheap. And autox-ing is gonna put a lot more stress on your brakes than grocery-getting, so get slotted. Consider the extra $115 as insurance for piece-of-mind.

And don't forget to get quality pads with them...otherwise you've wasted your money.

You all do realize, and are saying, that because he is going to be auto/xing that he should get slotted because autox causes more stress on the rotors. However, you fail to realize that when you put slots in something you reduce its mass and structrual integrity. Therefore, if you want STRONGER more resistantant rotors you DON'T want slotted. Also, the rotors don't really warp, they build up deposits of burned pad that weld onto the surface of the rotor causing it to be uneven.

Yes, you could say that the slotted rotors help to 'clean' brake dust off the pad, but in reality they are just for show and they do not aid cooling. Recall what I said before, slotting reduces the mass, and if you have less mass, it is easyer to heat more quickly.

The best thing you can do for brake performance is buy high quality pads (don't ask me what kind, I don't know), but save the $115, get the blanks, you will not notice a performance difference, use that $115 to buy nice pads, which you will notice the difference. Or use it to get SS braided lines or something like that.

Don't get the slotted unless they are for show, you would be MUCH better off getting the blanks and good pads.

zmepro, comparing a slotted and a solid rotor and the same pads, is there an actual improvement in stopping distance?

Thanks Zmepro and everyone.

But the problem is the only available blank rotors available for P5 is Centric rotors, except the OEM. I can't get any response back how the Centric rotors quality are. On the other side, seems like everyone who has used Rotora rotors, they like it. I know it is $115 more expensive but I can count on the quality -> I think :p

Brake pads, I already have AXXIS brake pad and I like it a lot. So I will not worry about brake pad.

you can get brembo blanks, and with the same pads, i don't think you will have much better braking power, you will just wear out the pads faster

Brembo? Hmm, I don't think Brembo makes any rotor for P5. I already called them and they said no rotors for P5. That's what Brembo told me

My stock rotor is pretty beat up because track and autoX :)

There is actually a boundary layer of gases that builds up between the pad and rotor surface which inhibits performance. Heres where Power Slot rotors make a big difference. The exclusive Vac-U-Slots machined into the rotor wipes brake pads clean, evacuates gases, and sheds heat.

This is not true, modern pads don't produce gases

these slots look smaller, so i donno

Powerslot makes slotted or cross drilled rotors only. They don't make blank rotor and I heard they can crack easily because the rotor is slotted until the edge of the rotor. So compare Rotora and Powerslot, I prefer Rotora.

ok, i still think that the blanks are better (i don't remember the brand you said) but i couldn't find the brembos

Yeach, personnally I like blank also. But I can't find anything about Centric rotors. Hopefully, someone in the forum can help me about it. I don't want to buy stock rotor again. Anyway, thanks a lot for your help zmepro
