SkyActiv Oil Analysis Thread

yea but it does have the intercooler getting air flow
True but that's not cooling the turbo down. The intercooler (air to air) lowers air temp exiting the turbo, before it goes into the intake valves. It's the oil that keeps the turbo's moving parts from overheating.

Engine the oil cooler is below the turbo at the rear.

May be we should split the last 10 replies into a new thread?

I agree it doesnt make sense to continue adding posts as it makes it harder to find actual oil analysis which is the purpose of the thread

Sorry, it's all related (Direct Injection).

I mean, we're still talking about oil.

Skyactiv Oil Analysis is the thread title and topic. It's for posting Used Oil Analysis reports and discussing the results of those reports. Discussing OCI is relevant to a degree, as some people will change their OCIs according to their UOAs. However, debating the manufacturer's recommended OCI, discussing oil coking, etc. is unrelated.

Keep it on topic please.

First UOA on a new to us 2019 CX-5 purchased from a Mazda dealer. Sticker indicated it used Qualker State 0w-20. The aluminum was a bit higher than anverages. What say you all about this? Is this normal for a CX-5, especially one with cylinder deactivation?

I would not say that 5 is high considering 6188 miles on the oil. I would defer to their expertise whether it's abnormal to see aluminum higher than iron.

Cant open the file for some reason but Check my past UOAs of the same engine (past posts) if curious. I have done multiple UOAs from new.

5 is not a lot. Your are fine.
Changing oil earlier or using Mazda oil should drop those even lower.

2019 CX-5 Touring. 2.5 NA. The first oil analysis was from the oil that was in it when we bought it used from a Mazda dealer, Quaker State 0w-20 synthetic. This UOA is for STP/Amalie 5W-40, SN rated HDEO. I'M A FIRM BELIEVER IN USING PROPERLY RATED HDEOS. I'm very pleased with this result. The iron is up but the aluminum is down. I used a Champ XL filter. I guess my fear over fuel dilution issues with direct injection engines is apparently not valid with the Mazda Skyactiv.

Thank you so much for creating this thread. Is this using OEM filter? I hope we can get others to participate as well so we can gather more data and geek out a bit. I am almost at 4K mi and will change my oil at 5K. Will be replacing with mobil 1 and MoS2 additive from Liqui Moly as stated in another thread. Kedis, I hope you will be sticking with the Mazda Moly for awhile! :)
I'm getting ready to change the factory oil change to LiquiMoly on our 2024 that now has about 9k on it...everything I've used LiquiMoly in has run quieter and seen a mileage boost of a couple of MPG. The old oil looks pretty good for a bit short of 5k miles....it was changed at 4k when we got it as a CEO demo.

just sent a sample in 39000 miles with 4800 miles on the oil PUP 5W30. I won't be surprised if I have some fuel in the oil....I swear my car makes oil....I put in 5.1 quarts with a factory filter and after 4000-5000 miles I get out 5.1 quarts which does not account for the little bit of oil that gets left behind in the filter....this last oil change I ran it hard as was on a 3000 mile trip and only averaged about 22-23mpg. too much sport mode in the mountains......i guess...smiles per gallon
