Simple question about intake

I know that many of you guys have Injen, or Aem CAI.
I have a K&N drop in filter and I have no future plans of installing hard pipes or CAI.
I would like to know if anyone of you fellow members have a cone filter,or an air ram from turbohouses, and an heat shield in the stock location of the OEM filter.

I would like to know if the air ram can fit directly to the maf in the stock location or if anyone of you knows if you can simply connect a K&N cone to our stock maf.

I am askimg because I would lke to test this setup during the colder weather to see how the car responds and how it sounds.

I know it might be stupid but it is simply a curiosity.

Thanks again

the sounds question is easy enough to answer. You'll hear more whistle and turbo noise, as well as blow off noise from under the hood, due to the fact that you don't have a resonation chamber(aka airbox) anymore, it just comes out the filter. Response will vary depending on airflow into the filter. probably not much difference though.

do you guys know what size is the stock MAF?

Should I get a 2.75 or 3.00 inches diameter?

Thanks

You can if you want. Depending on the filter you might need a coupler or reducer. Some have the coupler built into the filter.

Most people would say you are going to lose hp with that setup though, since it will be pulling in hot radiator wash, and you still have the same bendy intake pipes all over. I don't know how you plan to do this heatshield idea, but maybe that would help depending on how it is done, I don't know.

I can also get a used injen and attach cone to the maf. no cai for me.
thanks a bunch. i just want to try out the difference.

It'll SOUND as if you're pulling harder and going faster, but alas it's all for effect.
It's your car do what you want.

So I can order a filter with 2.75 inner diameter and it should fit on the MAF. Right?

You guys were very helpfull.

since you are going to be clamping it to the maf i dont think there will be an issue between 2.75 and 3"/ from my experiences with putting a cone on the maf like you want to do, there will be more "turbo" sounds, but not really a performance increase since the IAT will be reading warmer air so timing will be retarded, and my idle suffered. When I run over 10psi I usually use this setup to keep the timing retarded after 4800 rpm.(when the iat starts making a diff in timing)

no i meant the size of the maf. The iat is plugged into the top right of the airbox next to the maf. It has a few wires running to it taped in black.

does the temp sensor need to be connected to anything or can it just hang out in the open. also did u guys say that u will lose power with this setup or will it stay the same.
