selling the p5...

I would say to keep it for awhile as these cars seem to hold their value fairly well. my 02.5 5spd w/moonroof and 53k mi was worth $11.3k in Nada guides when they totalled it at the beginning of this year. I love my new car but I do miss my P5, I'd say keep it till you pay it off Lisa... just my opinion (dunno)

these cars do not depreciate well. the only mazdas that truly hold a resale value are miatas. to some extent, rx7s and millenias do as well, but not so much. historically speaking mazdas don't hold thier resale value. it remains to be seen how resale is on the 6 and the 3 as they are still pretty new.

for comparison, when i sold my 95 intrepid with 80k in 2001, it only went for 4500 to a consumer(only offered 3000 trade in). and it sat on the market for 2 months before it sold. that didnt hold its value. that was a 25000 car new....

thats not what you will get for a trade in from a dealer. thats what a dealer will try and sell the car for at best......

yeah, that black book sucks......

hey Captain..
How about the 'black book' value of a obesessively maintained (looks new inside and out)2003.5 Pr5, ~30k miles, sportshift auto, moonroof, 6disk indash, no leather, no abs?, no side impact air bags? Of course, back to stock condition.

Thanks

i don't think options will help out that much....i think the book is prices offered and paid at the dealer auctions.....

Ken..
do the painted calipers deduct from the cost they will give me?

my car will be paid off in 4 months (eekdance)

yeah I was living at home so I paid mine off in 9 months, no car payments for 10 months then it was totalled. thankfully though I was able to get this one "straight cash, b****!" :D not having a car payment is so nice... now if I could just figure out a way to make student loans go away too (rofl)

mods done tastefully usually do not detract from the value, if they look stock, etc. if the paint is chipping, it looks homemade they usually do not care or do not notice

most dealers will play this game with you; you ask them how much your car is worth, they'll ask you what kind of car you are looking to trade in for. they'll give you a higher value for a more expensive trade and vice versa.
