SELL MSP or UPGRADE

Right, because real enthusiasts race interiors. (ricer)

No because at the end of the straight that you beat us on, you'll die when you go straight instead of around the corner in a horrendous display of understeer, and we will go AROUND the curve in a balanced display of chassis tuned, lsd-induced, off throttle controlled oversteer.

You make it seem like the SRT's suspension isn't upgradeable. (deadhorse I'd love to go around some twisties with your chassis tuned MSP. I guess you forgot that 04-05 SRT came with LSD's as well. (glare)

Bump for more drama..... (poke)

But if you upgrade the suspension then the MSP can do engine upgrades and we are just in a very large revolving door.

Hotchkis Lowering springs: $159
Mopar PT & ACR swaybars: &129
Prothane full suspension bushings: $120
Front and rear STB's: $40 (new)
Total: $448

Thats not a lot for performance mods.

Youre more than welcome to come up to Omaha and take it for a test drive... she is for sale after all. And yea, its pretty much a revolving door like it was pointed out, both cars can be upgraded to take advantage of any weak areas.

It costs a lot more to upgrade the engine than the suspension, though, and it's a lot more of a headache.

I don't think you could get the SRT-4 to feel like an MSP though. Maybe with coilovers, but I doubt it. It might go around the corner as fast but the steering feel and the driving experience of the MSP is what I like.

MSP's (and other Proteg) chassis is a lot stiffer to start with than a Neon chassis, no matter which upgrades you do to the latter. And by upgrading the MSP suspension as well, it makes a very tough car to match. It has been said for years now: MSP=chassis (therefore handling) and SRT4=Engine (power). That's it! You figure which of the 2 features you like better and choose the car accordingly. The SRT4 will never put as many Gs than the mSP. And the MSP has a nice interior as a bonus. But if you want serious power, get an AWD or RWD...

True. Pretty cheap for an improved suspension. However, there's something about the MSP's handling that can't really be quantified and probably can't be duplicated. It's just an overall comfort factor when tossing it around and a wonderful feel for the road. I snapped up my MSP because it was my last chance to get something based on the original 323 platform. That platform has turned out a ton of great handling cars, like the '88-'89 323 GTX AWD Turbo (my first Mazda), the Miata and even the lowly '91-'96 Escort GT (Just sold my '91...still handled beautifully.) That kind of road feel either matters to you or doesn't. It matters a ton to me and is why I'll never let go of mine. The car just fits like a glove and responds like you want it to. Even bone stock. To quote SCC when they were testing the highly upgraded Nismo Sentra SE-R and compared it to a stock MSP and it still wasn't as good:
"The Mazdaspeed Protege is still the erstwhile king of twisty mountain roads."

I live in the mountains of East Tennessee, and for me there is no other option.

As for the power dept...eh, we spend a lot of money and do the best we can. I wish I could swap that stout as hell 2.4 Mopar into my MSP. Imagine the fun we could have with that. The MoparSpeed Protege! (cheers)

I got lucky. I'll tell you where I got it when I complete my transaction on a kick-ass new motor. :D

There's always a way. It will take some money, but if you read up and watch for deals on parts in the F/S section, you can get close enough to these other cars to make it fun.

For instance, in the last month I just bought:

-new AWR 70 durometer motor mounts ($160)
-Spare MSP tranny with a new Quaife preinstalled ($1000)
QUOTE]

i wanna know where you can get a msp tranny with a new quaife installed for 1k the quaife alone is 1500 from what i have found

mbc: $120.00 (at most)

turn that sucker up to 17psi... the rods and everything may go to hell, but it would beat a srt-4. And after the engine blew, I would sit in my car and watch tv whilst the srt-4 caught up.... interior for teh mutha f 'n win!!!!

Take a look at this. This is by far my favorite SRT to date, sure its not the fastest Neon on the block but its one hell of a balanced car that is an inspiration at least. Not to mention all parts are Mopar factory upgrades, no aftermarket.

Mopar ELW SRT-4

I don't know about the balanced part: "Was it impressive? Absolutely. Was it fast? Unquestionably. Was it balanced and predictable? Well, not really."

One way or the other, it ran 11's w/ slicks and sub 10 sec. 0-100. That's not just impressive for a FWD roadgoing car, that's f---ing insane!!!

Like I said, the SRT-4 is a hand's down winner in the power department. If I won the lottery, I'd figure out a way to transplant the 2.4 into my MSP. It's one hell of a motor, and it was built to take some punishment.
