SELL MSP or UPGRADE

Yeah so Mopar knew they screwed up on the suspension and fixed it years later. If Mazda had kept making the MSP who says they wouldn't have replaced the rods and turned up the boost. If you like corners keep the MSP and just up the power. If all you care about is straight line buy the EVO or STI. You could also throw everyone for a loop if your small enough and buy a Lotus Elise for 40k and beat them all stock for stock.

An Evo or an STI is a far better performer overall, that is not only my opinion but facts otherwise known as reality. That's just plain silly to think that An Evo or STI is just a straight line performer.

is that a civic shifter????

edit: other than the shifter and radio, I like the interior, reminisce of the 300c and Charger. Does it have a clock???

No need for a clock you know the massive power that interior has can literally stop the earths rotation when the wheels finally catch traction.

I don't think of Evo's and STI's as straight line performers. The original post was about upgrading the MSP or getting something else. In my opinion if you are going to give on the MSP then don't go to another FWD at least go AWD or RWD. Personally if I could I would get the Lotus. With the weight even small increases in power would be noticeable. I read an article a while back in SCC about a turbo version and would love to see one in person.

More power, less lag, better throttle response to boost, and if its forged, its not gonna blow. Plus, the increased chance of detonation from 1 point isnt that great.

I was going to run 8.0 on my block but ended up running 8.5 so i didnt sacrifice so much out of boost power for better driveability which is good for the in and out of boost nature of autoX.

8:5 is in my opinion provides best compression ratio, I should have been more specific. If we are going to split hairs, the list get's very long. I think my point was made clear enough.

I only read the first few pages... (any more and my IQ would have dropped to a level that would have made my writing this extremely difficult) I'd like try and put this pitiful debate to rest with a few thoughts.

It's a cheesy cliche but it's true... diversity is what makes the world go round. Every single one of us MSP owners should thank God for guys like SloSRT and NoLimit. They represent the hundreds, if not thousands, of "boys" (looking to be men) who are clearly only interested in one thing. Overcoming their... shall we say "inadaqucies" with a fast car. We all know the type. Hell, we see them all the time. Whether they're bagging our groceries, flipping our burgers or asking us what size we'd like those nikes in... they're easy to find. Losers in almost every way. Quite sad really. Many of them going home (to their parents house no less) where they lock themselves inside their bedrooms -complete with paul walker posters- and log on to the net to pick up girls (Kip Dynamite style) and talk tough on forums like this. Thanks to guys like this, our beloved MSPs didn't sell well and their existence continues to exist only to knows "in the know". Because of guys like this, Mazda's extremely well-engineered and balanced car was overlooked by what Mazda had anticipated it's target market to be. For this reason, many of us were able to land extremely good deals on these cars ($17.5k is probably about the avg price members paid) and their exclusivity speaks for itself. Had the protege engine been able to support more hp... enough hp to gain the interest of the types described above, Mazda may have been forced to make more of them. I can't speak for the rest of the MSP owners on this forum here but, if someone were to say I could have an extra 50hp but that I'd have to sacrifice what I might like most about my car.... I'm not so sure I'd take the extra ponies. I personally like not seeing another MSP on the road... pretty much, EVER! Maybe it's just me... and clearly, the rest of the MSP crew, but I like going against the grain. In the game of life, one can choose to be a sheep or.... (insert your favorite kick ass animal.) I choose the Bengal Tiger. Probably the baddest of all land animals and.. yeah, that's right... it's orange!

Anyway... (where the hell was I going with all of this?) In summary... while I was a bit harsh above with my ultra stereotypical portrayal of what I feel represents many of the SRT-4 crowd, since I don't know either SloSRT or Nolimit personally (nor do I want to) in fairness, I can't characterize them in that way. (even though it's probably true). Just for the record, though I think the styling is downright hideous (seriously folks... if Websters ever decides to put 'fugly' in the dictionary they can save their breath and simply add a picture of the SRT-4.) As much as I appreciate and respect what Dodge did with that car performance wise, with regard to looks, interior and a whole bunch of other purely subjective things, IMO it just doesn't compare.

Notice I said subjective. I understand that performance numbers are relatively cut and dry while looks, value and quality are not. (Ok, check that. Unless Consumer Reports decided to do a piece of black holes along side their review of the SRT-4, that's a whole bunch of nothing in the quality and reliability department. That still counts nowadays right?) But anyway, yes it's true. The SRT-4 whipes the floor with the MSP in acceleration and 1/4 time. For simple-minded types, relying on specs and numbers is all they can do. Others can look deeper into matters that are far more important (to them.)

The MSP embodies everything that is right (and wrong) with a car. It's far from perfect but we love them just the same. For all of you SRT fanboys out there who feel the need to come on our forum and bash our car, I say to you... GET A LIFE!! Seriously boys, there's more to life than having the fastest (and fugliest) car on the block. We realize that you might be experiencing buyer's remorse for "buying" (we all know your dad bought you this car) such a cheap POS (which is synonomous with Dodge... look it up in Rogers Thesaurus and you'll see) but come on already. You don't have to justify it by beating others down. We get it. You're faster in a straight line and we have the cooler car that gets the girls. We're heartbroken too. We'd have it the other way but... we're not gay. So go back to your little hole (and while you're at it, leave our forum) I think it's time you get back to doing what you do best. .... Sucking.

Goodnight folks... that's all the showe we have. Thanks to my guests the Siegfried and Roy, the Tiger that nearly killed them and of course, all of you at home.

oh lord this reminds me of the msp vs cobalt thread...when will it end!!

my evo handles way better around corners than my msp ever thought of. the evo (and sti i assume), like the MSP, were built for the corners, they just also happen to perform well at a drag strip so a lot of people like to take them there

I love those turns.... drop it in third and brush off the inside right line of the first turn, bring it back over to the left while shifting to fourth in the left turn, bring it to 90 by the fork to go east or west, a tap on the brakes, back to third to pull through the westbound turn 30ft above 595 and the floor it to hit 100 right as the ramp merges on to 595?????

Uh, I mean, I've seen people do things such as that :)

My favorite turn is the east bound exit off of 595, just east of the turnpike exit. I know its called miracle mile from 95, but I think its called 84 or Davie (I always get those confused down there). I refer to that turn as "the pinball" turn. It's the kind of turn where you can just shoot it out of the highway and sweeps through this banked left and immediate right all while trying to outrun like three other merging lanes to one. You can *safely* take those at 80, but there's always a cop so you have to slam on the brakes immediately after the second turn. The speed limit is like 45mph there.

Ah, once again, I have seen people do those things.
Man you know exactly what I'm talking about. That whole 595/turnpike/441 interchange is absolutely amazing. I passed the SRT-4 at about 105mph on the outside on the ramp heading onto the westbound 595 and it was just the most amazing thing. The SRT-4 driver was in total shock. Priceless!

So that means you ran against a NON-LSD SRT-4. If you want to brag, try challenging a 2005 SRT-4 ACR, but you probably wouldnt be posting a kill, you'd be posting a death.

LSD in the '05 SRT-4 still doesn't make it anywhere near as well a handling car as the MSP. The LSD limits slip, it doesn't make your chassis anywhere close to as stiff as ours. And BTW, if I wanted to totally demoralise any SRT-4 through those turns, I'd jump into my other ride. Have a nice Neon life.

I know I will get flamed on but oh well everyone has a personal opinion. I sold my MSP and pick up a Civic hatch. The MSP was killing me with payments, I guess in Colorado they did not cut you the good deals that they did in other parts, I paid 20k for my MSP. Of course the thing that attracted me to the whole MSP idea was the thought of not having every person on the road with one, but now that Im a Honda guy I have come to realize how different each one is, not the ricers running around town, but the nicer done Honda's. I love having an aftermarket support, it's amazing. But putting 10k into the MSP would just seem like a bad choice to me. I don't have a part list or a reciept but my friend put 10k into his GSR and ran 11.8's at 5280ft. All 10k was not in the engine either, but its all personal preference...Im by all means not bashing on anyone for the car they drive as long as they take the time and do it right. Just my two cents, I would have to say it was a good trade off for me, I have come to Love Honda's now and I cant see myself going back to Mazda's...I had owned a MSP and a MX-6 before my hatch.

I guess you didn't bother to read the last few pages? Mostly all of you retarded post is not even worth replying to, but just for information, I don't flip burgers, sell shoes, or have any other piece of s*** job like that. I work on 60 million dollar aircraft, and have more technical knowledge than you can fit in your autistic brain of yours. Looks are subjective, and for someone to fall back on the argument of: "My car is slower, but it looks better, your car has more potential, but mine has a better interior." (jerkit)

Get back to your garage and continue to huff gas like you were with your sister and stare at your 170hp monster and have a great 15 second day. (eekfu)

Running race gas? Pushing the limits of the stock motor too break 14's?

Nothing is wrong with your amp, why is it cutting out?

Race gas? NO, 94 pump gas. Its a neccessity running 9:1 compression. Pushing the limits of my stock motor/? No almost 100,000KMs on the stock FS. Actually Im pushing the limits of the stock motor to get a low 13 second pass on street tires. Im almost in the high 13s under 10psi..how much boost your running on a 2.4L motor to get into the 13s.? And Illl still rip your ass the corners stock :), my paint and shift knob arent going anywhere and I can actually get a date cause I dont own a neon..

And you keep braggin about the SRTs speed, you better be making 14s stock, what do you think thats good or something from a 2.4lT motor?haha Thats s*** buddy, s***. christ a first gen probeGT with a boost controller and only 2.2l SOHC 12 valve owns your ass and that cars over 10 years old... Mopar, nono, GAYPAR. and that fact that you are comparing you prized 2.4L motor to one of the WORST engines mazda has ever produced is hilarious.(the fact that we beat a 2.4l with even shittier 2.0l engines from time to time is great) Ever heard of a little 2.0l called the Mazda FE3? or a even smaller one called the GTR? they can show your 2.4l how to dance no problem.

why is everyone so hung up on "it takes you xxx much boost to make that much power"? who cares if you're running an s2000 at 9psi making 300hp or an evo at 20psi making 300hp? one isn't any better than the other because it takes more or less boost to make power

Right bring up the interior thing again... (jerkit) Believe me you wont be pulling me on the 1320 or the corners. What is it with you all that you have to fall back on the handleing and interior raceing time after time?

Get a date? If your need a Protege to get a date, then I dont want to know the quality of male/females, that get into your econobox. The only "date" that needs to ride in my NEON is my wife and son. Have fun pulling bitches in your high 13 second stressed internals, superior handling, shift knob having econobox. (potkettle

Good job degenerating the thread again. And if you read carefully, without your stupid biases, there was just as much irrational prejudiced SRT-4 bashing.

Overcoming their... shall we say "inadaqucies" with a fast car.
And getting a fast car is wrong, how? You like a car because it's "going against the grain," so if other people like a car for different reasons, it's wrong?

Let me point you back to the topic starter:
