Screw The Msp

Feel it's time I put my two cents worth in. I have personally dyno'd 250 to the wheels on a totally stock MSP. The only exception is a front mount, but that doesn't really up the power all that much on a dyno. Sure, I had to crank up the boost to 18 to get that number, but I did it, and that was two years ago. My motor is still together and have had no problems as of yet. Here is a breakdown of all the money I have invested thus far and I guarantee that at it sits, she is damn near twice the car she ever was.

T4 Turbo- 250----eventually the seals blew on it, so I upgraded
Garrett T3 60 trim- 600
OBX manifold- 250----finally had enough of that pile
ProjektUFO manifold- 200
Wastegate- 85
Blitz BOV- 50
Huge FMIC- 150
First FMIC I ever put on the car-89
600cc injectors- 150
Walbro pump-45
Split Second AFC- 400

All said and done, $2269 thus far into the engine bay itself. Had I gotten decent parts to begin with you can subtract almost 400 from that total. Here is the thing, some of the mods that free up HP can be done for free.

You don't have to get everything brand new and at the cost listed. I got my brand new Walbro for 45 because I got ahold of someone who ended up getting the wrong type pump. 600cc injectors for 150, because a friend had them laying around and wanted them gone.

I bought this car wanting to make it quick, and I did so on a budget. How on earth you spent 5 grand for nothing blows my mind. Good luck getting out of this pile of s***. Sorry you didn't buy an SRT-4 in the first place.

I would also like to add that my stock turbo blew up after 15k miles of me driving it, and when it blew, I was doing 65 on a freeway just cruising. Parts fail, and to blame the MSP for your problems, **** man, let it go. It's not your fault the previous owner beat on the car more than you do, at least til you made this thread

You run 10psi on stock internals? Stock tuning? How do you do this!? I need to know.

Ive been to 12 psi on stock internals, all i had was a 2.25" catless midpipe, spark plug non fouler cat cel kill mod, one step colder plugs, 91 octane gas no ethanol with lucas octane booster. Some cars will handle it some wont.

ok well i have been doing a build on my MSP for 2 1/2 months and i have run into alot of problems with this POS... i went all forged internals and sent the head out to get tested and everything checks out fine i have gone without a car for 4 months now and im sick of paying for a car i cant drive i have dumped more money into it than i wanted and the car is just not comming together at all just when i think im close its one thing or another and im just F***ing tired or it and if i do get this done anytime soon im 5K into it and i would be lucky to get mid to high 200hp range and its a complete wase of dam money IMHO... someone please explain to me why mazda dosent make a rebuildable turbo... because thats whats holding me back now i need a turbo and i dont want to spend anymore money on this POS.... its not running and i cant drive it i have had it in the garrage more than i have drove this pile of s*** its just dam F***ing RETARTED... mazda has no dam clue what the hell they were thinking with this car *lets turbo an NA block not forge it and leave the tranny so the LSD will blow and then we get everyone that wants this car to bring it into us for matinance* that is there sole purpose in creating this abortion of metal they call the MSP..... end rant
Now that's comedy gold!!

spec v looks like a turd guy. Try your spell check sometimes.
no i did my research trust me, i got most of my parts from ken at PG im 5k total into the build and im only going to get at the most 280whp i did my research and the stock turbo isnt that good past 15-16psi and that good for high 200whp range...i need to upgrade the turbo to get anykind of 300whp and thats a joke... im a former specV owner and on a road coarse no alot of things could hang with me that includes the MSP, hondas, 350Z, S2000, of coarse i had alot of money invested into my old car but i still think the stock SpecV is alot better now that i have owned an MSP

like the nissan sentra SpecV will had the MSP its ass even on a road coarse

After first deciphering your post, I have to quote Sport Compact Car magazine, who after testing two Nismo versions of the Spec V with highly upgraded suspensions, was still disappointed with the Spec V, and said that... "The Mazdaspeed Protege is still the erstwhile king of twisty mountain roads." No comparison.

I can agree with you on one thing. Mazda did rush into making the MSP. Its under engineered and everyone knows that. So as soon as u buy it u know its going to be a challenge. I think you should be patient and see how things work out for you. Upgrade/Rebuild the turbo and go from there. Yuo've already spent 5k atleast finish the build. And if you dont like it sell it and get the car of ur liking. No reason for people to get worked up on all this. Everyone has their own opinion and own luck with this car. Dude i tip my hat to you for doing the build and i hope you finish it. G/L.

thanks for everyones .02 cents, im at a loss but the build is almost done all im saying at this point is it had better have been worth it. now lets just hope that the tranny dosent blow up on me now!

one thing you have to consider when building a car is who is putting it together. alot of people have trouble with their forged motor because it was not properly done right, sander has had trouble with two of his motors.

If you decide to keep the stock GT2554R ,all you have to do is contact ATP Turbo. Garrett has a renew program which requires that you send your used CHRA or complete turbo and they will install a new factory balanced CHRA and mate it to your existing housings. The extra cost for you would only be a couple hundred dollars. You can't beat that kind of exchange. Or just invest in the GT28RS which would definitely help you achieve those numbers your looking for. You've put too much time, money and effort to throw in the towel bro. I know these cars can make you pull your hair out so just hang in there.

i have the turbo setup im going to use now, i pick it up tomorrow and i dont think anyone is running what im going to be... its not to special but its bigger than the gt28rs! and your right im pulling my hair out but i have invested way to much money into this car to just part it out and throw it away!

I say finish it, when i was building my CRX i was having alot of trouble and just wanted to sell it but i didnt and now I have an ls1 eater!

94k on mine not troubles, still original lsd, turbo, everything. I do have hard pips and other supporting mods. Plan for mine, altered customs FMIC, HKS SSQV, SS AFC, and maybe a gt28rs.

If you tear the crap out of a car it wont treat you right. Just take a deep breath, really deep, and think that not all tunes go as planned.
