2003 MSP
ok well i have been doing a build on my MSP for 2 1/2 months and i have run into alot of problems with this POS... i went all forged internals and sent the head out to get tested and everything checks out fine i have gone without a car for 4 months now and im sick of paying for a car i cant drive i have dumped more money into it than i wanted and the car is just not comming together at all just when i think im close its one thing or another and im just F***ing tired or it and if i do get this done anytime soon im 5K into it and i would be lucky to get mid to high 200hp range and its a complete wase of dam money IMHO... someone please explain to me why mazda dosent make a rebuildable turbo... because thats whats holding me back now i need a turbo and i dont want to spend anymore money on this POS.... its not running and i cant drive it i have had it in the garrage more than i have drove this pile of s*** its just dam F***ing retarted... mazda has no dam clue what the hell they were thinking with this car *lets turbo an NA block not forge it and leave the tranny so the LSD will blow and then we get everyone that wants this car to bring it into us for matinance* that is there sole purpose in creating this abortion of metal they call the MSP..... end rant

I wasnt aware they werent rebuildable? Forced Performance out of texas said they could rebuild mine. I have no problem with the turbo and engine, all of my issues have been drivetrain related.

yeah man, you can rebuild a turbo, costs between 100 and 500 depending on the shop

sorry to hear about your luck, this car definitely has quirks but IMO its a good car

well every shop around here says they cant rebuild it, and so now im forced to buy a new one or something.... im pulling my hair out... and im just compairing the car to other cars its up against and man they hand the MSP its ass... like the nissan sentra SpecV will had the MSP its ass even on a road coarse and people get 300whp with a bolt on turbo kit all day and for the most part dont break s***? why can nissan N/A engine put out more balls than the MSP stock for stock? im origionally a nissan guy and im very dissapointed in this car... i am done with it and am at witts end!!!

If you honestly think that a spec-v will take out a MSP on a road course your are VERY sadly mistaken. I have driven both the older and newer spec-v's and i will take my MSP on the open track any day of the week. And id like to know how you only got 200hp out of $5000? Ive seen people get 215+whp for less than $5000 easy. I'll the first one to admit that the car has its flaws, believe me, im on my third transmission rebuild. And honestly, if you started a forged build on a msp and you are complaining about $5k more into it to finish it, you have not done your reasearch well enough before you started.

yea i used to have a spec-v but i've lurked around their forums and trust me some people put a turbo on it and it hit about mid 200's but they still had a lot of problems with it. if you turbo an N/A motor no matter what make it is, you're bound to wind up with some problems.

um i dont know what kinda protege u raced a spec v in but ive yet to be beetin buy one and im not even forged!

By the way i hope you are not comparing magazine numbers because they are horribly wrong about both cars. Car & Driver said the msp hit a 15.6 stock in the mid 80's range trap speeds, mine hit a 15.2 @ 90mph bone stock on all seaons and a 15.0 @91 with awr f&r motor mounts.

no i did my research trust me, i got most of my parts from ken at PG im 5k total into the build and im only going to get at the most 280whp i did my research and the stock turbo isnt that good past 15-16psi and that good for high 200whp range...i need to upgrade the turbo to get anykind of 300whp and thats a joke... im a former specV owner and on a road coarse no alot of things could hang with me that includes the MSP, hondas, 350Z, S2000, of coarse i had alot of money invested into my old car but i still think the stock SpecV is alot better now that i have owned an MSP

if ur already 5 k into it then u should keep goin on it! plus u should be well over 200 hp if u have forged internals! i know someone who made it in the 250 265 range on stock internals!

i use to run 14.8 stock in my old SpecV... i got well into the 13's with DR and 75 shot (wet)

You have to understand the msp motor is just a 130 up n/a motor with a turbo on it, the spec v is a 175 hp n/a motor. It will obviously make more power with a turbo. You have to accept the msp for what it is, you couldn't have bought one and exected to throw down 300whp easily

try and get a hold of Chris at turbos unleashed. they have rebuilt about every turbo out there especially Garrets. and I wouldn't go and blame the MSP for the problems.
Almost always it's the owner ( in your case the previous owner's) lack of care for the car.

WOW 265 thats good for stock internals then zoomzoomboom... also i need a bigger turbo to get any more than that internalls dont matter if you dont have everything else to go with it ie. gt28rs disco turbo... thats the last thing i need to be done with this POS and i might make 300whp with a disco but then the tranny blows on me im mean you have got to be kidding me!!!

+1 and i kept up with a spec-v stock vs stock even when i was already heatsoaked, if i wasn't i would've owned him.

haha actually no boom! it was vic!(pirana) u know! the legendary yellow msp show/somewhat daily drivin car! he drove it like that for over 2 years i think!
