Scratches

Hey guys-
I got a few new scratches on my hood (guite a few, actually) when my friend hopped up onto the hood with his shoes on. The scratches are through the clearcoat, and therefore won't come out, which means a ~$400 repaint for the hood. Or I could forget about them. What do you guys think I should do? Is it worth it to squeeze the money out of him and get it fixed or just let it go and leave them?
