Safe boost level

Can you guys back up if stock psi on the MSP is 5psi? That's what I am boosting at and it will spike rarely to 6psi.

How do u know if you have a bad or faulty acuator? Boost spikes all the time, or doesn't hold boost?

I ran 6psi stock but there are a lot of boost levels for a stock MSP.
When my actuator was bad the car would idle like s***, want to turn off and I was getting a CEL on and off all the time. It would go on then later in the day or the next go off but come back on 15 min later. But other people seem to just spike HARD like 15psi or more.

yea i don't know whether the msp ecu is either stubborn, or just sucks, but adding more boost doesn't exactly lean out the car, unless you boost to a certain level that is border line of blowing up the motor. when people 'spike hard to 15psi' it's because that's the average max psi without the wastegate hose connected, or basically faulty wastegate. i hit 20 psi without the wastegate on.

I upped mine with the "spring" on the WGA and my AFR's are right in line. Mine is NOT flashed tho. I have heard that takes away fuel, and that is something that I definately do not want. I spike to about 10 and it backs off to 8.5 down to 8 through redline. I will be checking the plugs in the spring as I am running the stockers, but they looked beautiful last fall. That was not too long after I upped it a little tho, so I will be interested to see what they look like. I imagine I'll go one step colder.

Edit: I do stumble a lil bit 'round town with some hesitation. I can live with that tho, she seems to pull real smooth @ WOT.

You are an idiot.. You need to tune your car. and get rid of your 280cc injectors. You are very very rich untill about 6k where you lean the hell out.

Your also robbing yourself of lots of safe power.

i run 10 psi hard everyday
car runs like s*** tho
prolly the ze cam....last time i checked the sparkplugs they were white as snow....what does that mean?

Ya, I need to tune this car. Ya, I need bigger injectors. I also need a FMIC or better than stock, I need a better exhaust, I need EMS. All that might come in due time. My AFRs are fine through redline, believe me, I watch it constantly. Remember that time you were with me when I got it to 6K and my WB showed it leaned the hell out? Oh wait, you've never been with me in my car.
It stumbled round town when I first bought the car at stock boost, in fact there was MORE hesitation at the stock level.
You don't know me or my car, you make yourself look like an idiot calling ppl out with your ignorance.

Here's a few pics of my car at Mazda. No motor here. Brand new one going in this week with brand new turbo kit.

boost levels

The best thing to do if you plan on rasing the boost is to set it at 8 psi with an upgraded intercooler smic or fmic. You should also think about getting an egt gauge and a wideband gauge to monitor our exhaust temperatures and air fuel ratio. the msp is rich from the factory but the internals can only handle so much. a boost gauge is also needed and when you start to go above 10 psi its time to back off. i blew a motor at 12psi and its a b**** to replace when you do it yourself. just keep these things in mind and if you do plan on going over 10 psi FORGE your motors and UPGRADE your fuel systems. DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. DONT BE ANOTHER " BLOWN FSDE ENGINE" VICTIM.

No. They sure can't. But, I am taking some precautions this time around. I get my car back this week with the new motor and with the upgrades. Should be nice.

your ride

What are you planning for the engine? dude thats probably one of the best looking spicy orange speeds ive ever seen. whats the mod list on that car?

I have some big plans for the car this summer or fall. Right now the car has Injen Cold Air Intake, Flowmaster Exhaust 40 Series, catless exhaust, Turbo XS Boost Controller, Eibach Springs(2 inch drop), Triple pillar(boost, air to fuel, oil pressure). I just ordered some parts from my boys at SU. New hardpiping kit, Perrin Fuel Rail and new injectors. I will be getting Engine Management very soon. I haven't gotten the car back yet. As you know it is getting a new engine cause I blew the other one all over the street. Piston #3 almost knocked the head off when it hit it.

the ride

damn, sounds like a fun ride. sweet 2003.5 mazdaspeed rims. I'm lovin the wingless look too. i'm getting my 2.5" apexr1 catted midpipe and the 3" apexr1 exhaust and the turbohoses hardpipes with the hks bov here in about a week. i'm also planning on adding a vent in the bumper through the bumper support to help cool the turbohoses intercooler, and relocate my mass air flow sensor. Hope that new engine does the trick for you. That ems sould make a world of difference with the new fuel mods you plan on putting in.

Thanks. I have 2 different trunks for the car. I have a wingless trunk and one with the factory wing. I love the factory wing. It is on there now. I am sending the rims off to get painted soon with the exact Spicy orange paint code. Should be pretty hot. Yeah I need the piggyback ECU so I dont blow the new motor.
