what does it mean something is outsourced from japan?

does it just mean it is bought there or does it mean it is cast there?

Why wouldnt you just have a company do it here, it would save on shipping no?

From what i know, in order to have things cast, i thought it cost upwards of 500K bucks to have a caster but maybe im just retarded.

Ok, so I've been watching this thread from day one. I would like to see something come out for our cars that isn't from JAPAN. So with that said can someone tell me exactly why S.U. is being beatup on here?

I don't know about power curves and I have a question about the dyno numbers. Why is it all over the place? Will a N/A cars dyno be more stable? If thats a good way to ask it.

other than auto exe mintblue and a few other parts most of the stuff is from the uS.

think about it:

all the exhausts ghl, mam, ion (canada), etc...
turbo kits mam, hiboost, spool etc..

Anything "custom" made for the car is produced here in the US. dont know why he would outsource from japan if the part was custom made. WOuldnt it just have been easier to work with someone in the states to make the manifold rather than having it sent from japan?

There is a lot of speculation as to whether Cullen and steetunit actually "custom" made this manifold for the protege.

I have asked Cullen to post better pics of the mnaifold, from the rear etc.. so I can get an idea of what it looks like, but he doesnt.

Im just saying that piece looks stock, the way it is cast in aluminum like that.

When i see some more pics and more sources like where it actually came from, then i will stop being sKeptical.

The numbers however dont lie, the numbers are great, however i just want to make sure this part was actually "custom" produced by street unit and isnt just a junkyard mai from japan that has been sandblasted and cleaned up and sold for 550 bucks.

I dont like to play devils advocate here, but if the manifold is really custom made, let cullen describe a bit more about it, ie how he decided to come to these runner lenghts etc...

Also please post more pictures of the mani so people can see what it actually looks like.

If there is nothing to hide, then whats the big deal?

The manifolds are cast in Japan because it is more cost effective. Being there is a lot of research into the manifold, I cannot release any more info. I am sure you guys can understand. JSpec manifolds have the butterfly valves in the manifold, there are no shutters or mounting holes in this manifold.

We will also be doing an aluminum sheet metal race manifold for Protege's using stand alone engine management only. It will not work using stock PCM. I wanted to get the "stock looking," as you guys call it, manifold out first because it caters to more proteges on the market.

i just heard that all this is a 90-95 626 manifold, is that true?
No it is not. Please do not confuse it with one of those 626 manifolds. There were some FS's that tried to run that 626 manifold and failed. I do not want this to be grouped with those problems. Where you are getting that info, please let me know or straighten them out. Thanks.

ide rather not point fingers at were i hear that, i just wanted to get that cleared up, and i will straighten them out.

thanks for the quick responce.

that intake manifold *looks* like the 2000-2002 US 626 one to me, *not* the 93-99 one

seeing as how well the top end power became with the addition of the helmholtz resonator in the FS-ZE intake manifold, I wonder how well a turbo FS-DE would respond with a non-VICS setup WITH the helmholtz resonator

JDM and Euro FS-DEs intake manifolds *without* VICS are equiped with a helmholtz resonator (mostly equiped on 626s and MPVs).... yes there are the JDM and Euro intake manifolds that HAS VICS also.... there's so many variations of the FS that many parts bin combination upgrades/downgrades are possible

like I said, I wonder what the results would be when this "custom" intake manifold is incorporated with such a device?

This manifold looks awesome, thanks Street Unit. I will probably order soon.

Wicked vendors=wicked products.

I dont understand all the negativity in here, you would think will all the geniuses (jerkit) on this site someone would have found this manifold earlier..... ......but they didnt becasue it didnt exist.

Not to agree or disagree...But I have been into Cars and Building of cars for years...and I will tell you what...I have NEVER....NEVER...Seen a Mani made Aftermarket that looks like that.Edelbrock Mani's for the stang dont even look that natural ...I am gonna have to go along with Bryan here and Ask for some better pics.I won't say the dyno is not nice, but I will tell you what...If I buy one of these and I find ONE mazda Part # on this mani...Or a Spot that has been grinded and polished out to hide a Manufacture #'s....Then I know what it is.Tell us a little more info and showing pics will in no way jepardize the integrity of the confidentials of this part if in fact it is totally custom and fabbed by yourself.Once you sell one,The cat will be out of the bag anyway...I hate to be a $600 Guinea Pig to prove a point!

yeah either we are gonna get own3d big time or street units reputation will be forever tarnished for lying and trying to turn a profit off junk yard parts that have been sandblasted.

more pictures.

is it just me or does this look suspiciously similar to SU's mani.

guess what this engine is: USDM 1999 626

wtf cullen

EDIT: as if the fishiness werent enough... why the hell would he make the manifold so that "vacuum lines have to be rerouted" if you make a custom part, then wouldnt it make sense to accomadate the application?

Yeah the vac lines have to be rerouted; like a 626 lol

While they are both single runner manifolds it's hard to tell from those pics if they are the same. There have been no pics of SU's manifold posted from that angle. While the shape of the runners appear the same, those are very close to the firewall and there's no many other ways to put them. The plenum on SU's mani looks very round while the one you posted is obscured and from a different angle.
