Rust+Rotors = Why?

I love the protege5 brakes. But I wonder why they did not make them with rust free rotors. I am looking at eventually upgrading mine to get rid of this uglyness. I know it costs more, obviously, but not much more. I'm just not sure why this late in the game of car making that rust free rotors would not be common place.

Get high heat paint... Silver paint the rotors... while your at it paint the calipers red. with High heat paint

did you seriously just tell him to paint the rotors?... thats the surface ur applying pressure to in order to break, i'd never recommend painting it... i'd say go for the upgrade... there is the cheap way and the right way, so do it the right way the first time

I'm pretty sure you just paint the center of the rotor, you know, the rusty part. Not the braking surface which is pretty clean as soon as you apply the brakes.

I dunno' - i spent the time and efort to paint them with Rustoleum high temp paint. Rusted again in NO time. Bah! They are rusty and NOT A DARN THING I CAN DO ABOUT IT! Other than buy stainless rotors and i am too cheap to do that.

oh... sry i guess... i just don't see the point is all... if u want the expensive look i say go for the expensive stuff... otherwise it will always look like a cheap set of painted rotors no matter how good a paint job it might be... paint a good set if you really feel like it

have you ever seen a set of rotors that someone painted the rotor hat (not the contact surface)?

it actually looks good IMHO. It doesnt look cheap @ all. It is however how you do it. If you half ass it... its going to look half assed...

Its not so much for the "expensive" look, its meant to give you back that "brand new" look to the rotors. It only takes a couple hours to do and is FAR cheaper than buying a new set of rotors just to get rid of rust.

Damn good deal + fast shipping. I opted for the blank non-coated and have been kicking myself in the ass for it. I have had them on for a week and after three days of rain the hub is rusted like crazy....on the plus side they look dirty but they work great!!

Unless you get rotors specificially made to avoid the rust, you'll get it. It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow...but someday....
