Rishie's FITMENT RECIPE

stock wheels are 17x7 iirc ... if some people have seen rubbing with 225 wide tires, i really don't think 17x9 or x10 will fit on your car. you might be able to get away with 17x8 with the right offset but i dont know much about this

the widest tire you will find recomended is a 215, that will work, My car is lowered, running 17x7's, has a +48mm offset, I have 215's on, and there is NO rubbing and I have NOT rolled the fenders either.

Okay, so I've fallen in love with some rims Kyowa Racing 232's and I want to put them on my P5. Trouble is that they are 17.5x7 +45mm. From what I understand in the fitment recipe, these won't work so well with my car. The car isn't lowered yet, but I was planning on putting some Eibach Pro Kits on. So what do I do?

A) Slap them on with 215/40/17's and deal with the potential rub
B) Slap them on with 205/40/17's and pray for no rub
C) Forget about them. It is better to have loved and lost . . . yada yada

Here's a picture:

you might be all right if you roll the fenders -- and i think you would have to run the 215/40 because it might be to much of a stretch for a 205/40 on a 7.5 width --

hey, would 225/45/r17 tires rub at all with rims with a 55mm offset... would they rub the strut? any help appreciated. lol.

Yes for sure. I believe it would hit the strut. You can only go outward from the recipe. Not inward. So I'd say a +42 offset and roll your fenders. Something around there.

That tire is too tall for the protege anyways. You'll mess all the gearing up. Find something shorter, not taller. Unless you're madly boosted of course.

215/40/17

I have stock Mazda 3's (52+ offset) on my P5, lowered on Eibach Prokit springs with 215/40/17's and NO rubbing... The guys who put my tires on said i didnt have any more clearance to go any bigger than that...

Taller wheels/tires

Newbie alert....
I read this long thread (lots of good stuff - thanks for all your efforts), among others like http://www.msprotege.com/vbb225/showthread.php?t=123618318&highlight=5th+gear+kit, and I've seen a few references to "messing up" gear ratios. A taller wheel/tire is actualy what I was considering, both to fill the wheel well a bit better (love the tight/even gap look) and still keep more than a rubber band of sidewall, and possibly to drop the highway RPM a bit. This is of course just a thought/idea/daydream at this point, but seeing this, I'm now curious. What would the real-world effect be? I'd assumed taller through all gears, meaning a little less overlap, a little less forgiving launch (is 1st not short enough to handle it?), and a little lower RPM in top gear on the h'way, and an adapter needed for acurate Speed/Odo. Are there other adverse effects? Is it really that noticable in the power for city driving (no track work)? I'd assume you could just stay in a lower gear longer for more rpm/power when needed?

I understand you can't go too much taller w/o clearance issues on the towers/fenders. I'm not lowered yet, but with all this work, and extra wheel height, I was thinking about a little drop. The previous owner of my car put Estrella 16x7's but must have the wrong offset, cause the sidewalls catch the fenders in the back. I need to change that either way, so if I were to go taller, how tall can I go on 17's or 18's?

Anyway, thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Too long a post, I know... sorry.

18" rims or 17" to be safe?

Iw ant to get me these nice ass rims: http://www.konigwheels.com/catalog_product_details.cfm?CategoryID=1&ss_id=436
The Konig Sideways...I'm thinking 18" but I don't want to change the springs or suspension. Can I still get 18x7.5 with tires 215-40-18? What does offset mean? What is the offset stock on the 03 MSP?

Also, gonna look into painting over the black on these rims with the Spicy Orange color, to match the ride...what do you guys think?

Thanks!

215/35/18 is the more common size with more options. I have 215/35/18's on my P5 slammed with less fender clearance than the sedans with around a 50mm offset which tucks with around .200" clearance from the fender and to my coilovers. You will need a 48mm offset and maybe a 45 would make it at stock height. Offset is the distance off center of the wheel to the hub mounting face. 50mm will tuck more under the fender than a 45mm offset. Not sure what the stock MSP is. Spicy would look good I think.

i tried 225/40/18 on a 7.5" rim with a +45mm offset and the rear tires were rubbing on the fender. thats at stock height in my P5 but with my subs and amps in the back. If i put 215/35s on and rolled the fenders out would that work? i intend to put the eibach pro kit on next summer so would that work as well?

What about if i get 17"? The wheels come with a 40 offset...and i will use 215/45/17 tires...do i need to get spacers or something?

You need to go the other way with the offset. Spacers will lower the offset and make it worse. I'm nearly positive you will need min. 45mm offset.

Thanks man, i guess i will contact the shop selling the rims so they can send it to me already offset at 45...

Ok, so lets try a different version of the question: What's the largest radius tire you can get under stock struts/fenders, using any offset, assuming reasonable width like 215? So far in the thread it sounds like 215/35-19 (12.5 rad).

Anyone know if you can make a 215/45-18 (12.8 rad) or 215/50-17 (12.7 rad) fit? Do tose even exist? Just trying to find the upper bounds.

205 on a 7.5" rim is perfect for performance...just make sure you get a tire with a stiff sidewall.

205 on a 7.5" rim = less sidewall roll tan 215 on a 7.5" rim.

215 will be better suited for all around driving as it will provide more cushioning an better protection for the rim.

I have 17X7's with a 42mm offset. Even with rolled fenders, I still rub in extreme, high camber situations. (P5)

I was looking around a place called SupraGT and found some nice forged 16X8wheels in a nice anthracite colour with a 48mm offset...droool....

until I saw the price...$850.00 each wheel...as if!
