Ricktalife's EPIC fails and maybe a build thread too

Thanks for the explanations. I definitely wouldn't push the envelope like he did, but I certainly want to get maximum tuning capabilities in order to make it faster yet still reliable. Hence the standalone.

ive said this before and ill say it again... meth starts out simple then turns into a crutch to do too much with your tune. people say theyll advance timing just a little bit then end up running 18 psi on an aggressive tune, then blow their motors when they get air in the line or have the pump fail or end up on empty. you can push a car on meth so hard that the slightest interruption will kill it in seconds.

you would be well advised to use chemical intercooling just for advancing timing, not for the purpose of adding boost - or worse yet, doing both on the same tune.

people use most things as crutches. the whole " Supporting mods " idea is based on it.... " oh i have a front mount, im gonna run more boost " or anything like that. you just have to be smart with your tune. the guy that is tunning my car has tuned more than a handfull of 400+whp daily driven street cars on e85, most with meth, they all run great...

Nice build yo.what made u decide to run aem over a haltech standalone? Can you run meth and also have a tune for street fuel?

right, but your FMIC or midpipe or your motormounts arent going to just stop working like a meth system can. thats the difference. theres inherent risk in using methanol as a crutch, because its a fairly complicated system with a lot of points-of-failure, and any of them can kill your protege

+1 to what yudkib said, and yea there are plenty of high hp daily drivers... but we're talking about the FSDE here. Meth is definitely a powerful tool, but it just isn't as reliable as the basic bolt on modifications.

Thanks. I decided to give AEM a shot because they are a reputable company and I kinda wanted to try something different for our car. Not to mention it is a little cheaper than the Haltech.

Cleaned her up tonight. Pardon the warzone in my engine bay.

Ive been away for a while, and damn your car has came around. I sold my MSP back in March, but I am thinking I will get another one..........something about them that I miss. Seeing yours makes me wish I still had mine for sure. Maybe Spicy orange for me next>

haha i know the feeling. i want to pick up citizenpro's t3 kit to be ready for the next one. stupid good deal on that.

Thanks dude I appreciate that. I've been slowly working at it but I barely have any time to do stuff except on the weekends. Pretty soon it will be time for moar low. I hate the look of my front wheel gap.

Hit a groundhog yesterday. It's probably mean that I was more worried about destroying my front bumper even more as opposed to his life.. I was doing about 50-60 so I'm fairly sure he's dead.

On a lighter note, I plan on washing it today and having my brother buff and wax it. It needs a coat of wax like you can't imagine.

Car was wanting to stall on me when I was coming back from class tonight. I was thinking a loose coupler but I don't see any. Only thing I do see is some oil on the valve cover that appears to be coming from the crank case. Is this a sign that my motor is taking a s***?

What are your vacs? I'd do a compression test if you are worried about the life of your motor. You might just need a new valve cover gasket.

Vacuum was reading normal around -22 to -24. A compression test is a good idea, and hopefully it is something simple like a gasket. Though I just replaced the valve cover gasket less than a year ago.

Ordered an ECU extension harness from Crossover. Also remembered that I am still using 1 step colder plugs when I'm only running stock boost, so I guess I'll swap the stock heat range back in lol. Not sure if it really makes a difference.

it all makes a difference rick. -22-24 inhg means its almost certainly not your motor, thats stupidly good. almost too good.
