rev limiter question

tonight i was kinda half asleep driving. (13 hour shift plus no sleep will do that to you) i hit my rev limiter in first gear and i swear i saw some wierd blue light in the tach when i did so. i was just wondering if i was seeing things or if there really is a light when you hit 7200rpm? thanks.

As you know, the electroluminscent gauges have a blue hue in night mode (i.e. when lights are on). Each of the three gauge pods have a led at the top of it to cast this blue hue. When either the tach or speedo needles are pointed upwards (so at high revs or high speed), then when the angle is just right the blue from the led is reflected onto the needle itself.

ive hit the rev limiter and speedlimiter tons of times and never saw that. i think what wongpres was sayin about the glare from the needles is more like it.

Yeah, I'm gonna agree with wongpres too. Granted I dont have a 3, and therefore I've never experienced this first hand, but it makes a lot more sense than a randon blue light flashing to tell you you've hit rev/speed limiter when the car has already responded to it.

yeah i never seen that bklue light and i have hit the rev limiter many times. I will agree with wrongpres on this one.

I dunno bout the rest of y'all, but the blue lighting only comes on when I have the headlights/parking lights on. The blue effect on overrevving happened first when I had the headlights on, and the second time when the lights were off. I don't see how it could be a reflection, unless I just imagined it the second time. (scratch)

it probably was a reflection although i don't have the room to get my speedo high enough to see if it reflects too.

i dunno man but im about 99.9% sure that theres no such light on these cars. If there is mines burnt out.

I would have to agree that there is no such light. If you are hitting the rev limiter and you need a light to tell you, then you have other issues my friend.

lol yeah 7200 or maybe 7000 even, You need to start beating on your car man. or maybe i should stop beating on mine.......hmmmm
But forreal ive hit mine alot just cuz driving in the snow and even when its wet outside i give it too much gas and it just goes. It might even rev a little faster with the aluminum flywheel, i dunno.

just curious, is there honestly enough hp up there to make it worth beating the s*** out of your engine to hit it? I mean, with my car, it almost seems that about 6000 it starts to hesitate and lose power so I have never had the desire to go much higher
