ready to buy..is price decent? - CDN price

hi! i would like to say this forum is great and informative!! I'm excited in purchasing my first car all on my own. Before I can do that, I need your help!

I'm deciding on either a Mazda 3 GS 4 door with AC and power package or Mazda 3 Sport GS. Can anybody tell me what would be the best offer I should start negotiating with the dealer?

I bought a mazda 3s 4 door , with the pwr package, interior trim package, and 16in wheels for 16,100 before tax, tags , and anyother Bs...Check with your local bank and find out what invoice is so you know how much you can negotiate......welcome to the boards! good luck !!

Where are you located?

You can't listen to the advice the U.S.
guys give, its a totally different market there. Large discounts are common place in the U.S.
You'll be lucky to get any kind of a discount in Canada.

I'm located in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Just north of Toronto. They're quoting me MSRP which is $22285 for GS Sport and 20590 GS 4door with PP. I would like to cut to the chase and give them an offer, but i'm not sure how low of a price i should say without sounding too ridiculous. Does $21 K CDN on the road sound decent ?

Slightly off your question here, but did you check the price difference for the GT?? I was going to order the GS with A/C and the power package, but then it was only a bit more for the GT with both of those plus the bigger engine...

I'm still waiting for mine GS, AC/Auto/PP... I just thought 1350 was too much for r16 rims and sunroof... If you can afford it go for the GT... IMO 16" tires are too expensive + if you plan to get aftermarket rims you can use the 15's for winter

Hey Citrus, I live just near you in Scarborough and I just got my Mazda 3 4 door GFX from Markham Mazda. This might be useless to you but for the GFX including a lip spoiler I paid $27K. I went to carcostcanada.com to get the dealer cost on my model (it cost me $25) and the salesperson agreed that the info was correct. I recommend the site but beware the they don't give the dealer cost on most Mazda accessories so I had to assume a markup of 25-30% (which may be totally off).

Jay, is your Mazda 3 a GT (cloth) with automatic? If it is, which dealership did you purchase your car from? Also, just like to know how much of a discount (%) is reasonable for a Mazda3?

Yeah my bad for not including all the details, my car is a GT (no leather) and is standard (therefore knocking off about $1K off the sticker price). I bought mine from Markham Mazda. I tried to negotiate at the mid-point between dealer cost and MSRP, they went for it because we each sort of got what we wanted - he got a car off the lot with some profit and I didn't get completely molested by the price. Here's the details from Carcostcanada. Cheers.

2004 Mazda Mazda3 Sedan GT
M.S.R.P Dealer Cost
Base Price $21,345.00 $19,922.00

Optional equipment selected
GFX package $1,095.00 $1,022.00
paint - metallic $105.00 $86.00

Freight+PDI $925.00 $925.00

Air Tax $100.00 $100.00

Totals: $23,570.00 $22,055.00

Jay, could you let me know the M.S.R.P and Dealer Cost for the automatic transmission option.

Sorry, that'll be another $25 if you want that info from the site. I say screw it and estimate $1K for the addition of auto. Trust me, they're not going to allow for "negotiation room" on the auto option.

I got my MZ3 S Sedan with Auto Trans, Leather, wheels and lights upgrade, 6-CD, Sunroof and TTL for $21,368.00 driving off the lot.

I see people metioning GT, I didn't see the GT unless you are calling the 2.3L a GT is that correct?

Canadian trims are different and have different names than the US.

Go to Edmunds.com. Enter your zip code and all the options you want. They will give you a true market value as well as what others are paying in your area. This is usually a pretty good indicator.

People in my area must pay way to much cause their TMV value for a 5dr w/ identical options for my zip code is 1500 more than what I paid.
