Rally2003's Build Thread

That friend must have some really interesting ideas for a common problem like this..

Yep too bad we couldn't have found a cost effective way to fix it. I'm still going to keep my eyes open for a 3stage pump.

I wouldn't feel right stepping into Evan's territory. Plus that would bump me into XP where I would be killed.

What's this now? Where you going to do a mod that would bump you into a class with more competition?

(I'm just out there to have fun, and get my ass whooped)

-edit. Oh, a KL swap. Haha, you know I'll give you hand, brotha!

He ain't the only one doing it.

Yeah, Civic is in XP. The thought of an Autocross car out of that thing went right to s***.

Yeah, man. I'm not one of those cats who wants to be the only one with something or keeping secrets. I don't mind sharing at all! And I'm not doing anything special that hasn't already been done many times before.

If the KL is more reliable and the FS gives me more trouble it might be a fun project. It would be more of a street car then, but would still be fun on a autoX course. Do you have any idea on how much more a KL weighs compared to a FS?

I've heard 60-80lbs. Since the KL is all aluminum. But I've never weighed them, that's just internet rumors.

That's not bad. What are they rated at from the factory? Of course I would probably have to run a low boost setup :)

That's pretty close to a steedspeed mani & turbo bits

Well, the JDM KLDE is about 170chp, the USDM KLDE is about 165chp and the JDM KLZE is about 197chp. With the simple bolt-ons I had in the silver P6 I put down 169.9whp on the dyno at Mid-Ohio. That motor is in the Milly now and still runs great. The auto tranny on the other hand...

If you do boost it I would go with the lower compression JDM KLDE. At 8psi you're looking around 260-280whp. And JDM KLDE motors are cheap, about $700 shipped. Give me a call if you want to chat about it. I don't want to clutter up your build thread.

what about the torque? I think that would be more beneficial in auto-x

I'm going to stay with the FS for now. I think with improvements here and there it can be a lot more reliable. I think a lot of people when modding don't take into the consideration ofhow they drive and take care of their car on top of the added parts and upkeep/wrenching you have to do to a car that that is only going to need that much more attention. Any built car that has money in the motor and is raced, or driven to the limits is going to need more wrench time. Just my opinion.

I bought the acrylic and hinges the other day. Now I just need to get my old MSP oil pan and start fabricating the mock up. Hopefully I'll have something later tonight or tomorow.

I spent this morning trying 3 different setups for the pan a decided on one. The acrylic mockup is made and works great from what I can see with just 2 quarts of fluid in it. Crazy difference in flow properties than the stock pan with the little plate baffle on the bottom. Now I just need to fabricate a metal one and cut the bottom out of my old pan to check for clearence issues, if any, while attached to the bottom of the motor. If all goes well it should almost be a drop in setup that bolts to the support arm for the pickup tube. All you'll have to do is pull out the original baffle. I literally pulled it out with my hands. It has 4 tabs, each with a small spot weld.
