Radom thoughts formerly in the Audio challenge!

heyyyyy this is supposed to be so you and wake can talk car audio, not for you to ask about turbo kits!!
:D
edit: thank you

ah, wrong thread perhaps?

I would delete it but I am going to use this thread as a pointless post count expanding thread :D

triplexkustomz, i was using the specs from a site that sells RE, since RE's site is still being worked on. last time i checked you gain about 6 dB's by doubling the amount of air you move, in general. granted, xmax is not the best measurement for how much air a sub can displace, look at DD subs. dumax rated at very low, but yet they are a top SPL sub. but since RE uses a lot of the same technology as adire audio, and RE brags about the XXX 10 having the highest xmax in the world, then i assume their drivers will have an accurate xmax rating and give a good judge of the capabilities of the sub, espcially at the resonant freq of the car, with is about 46 hz, which as you should know is rather low for SPL comps. you don't see world records being made with tuning nearly that low, so how's it going to work in a daily driver for achieving over 150 dB with a low end RE sub and only 1200 watts? i know 150 dB is attainable, but unlikely at that freq, with that sub, and with only 1200 watts. i hit a high of 151.2 dB with a MOFO 15 and 1200 watts. i know how important the enclosure is. i took a $200 sub and a $300 amp and broke 150 with a box i built and tuned to 40 hz:D but that was a TL box designed to make the front and rear sound waves peak at the mic. did you tell the tech that it was in a stock car, low power, low freq, etc? cause 150 dB is easy in a modified application:rolleyes: what's the world record for a single 15, around 173 on the old meter? and the guy that's sponsored, what's his name? what competitions? what class? all that is important, especially since if he's sponsored, it's not in the stock classes:rolleyes: i've seen it time and time again at comps, stock classes barely hit over 150. being more specific helps when telling about competitors. what freq, what class, walled or not, etc. my accomplishments are beating guys with $3000+ systems with a few hundred dollar systems:rolleyes: FL state finals i beat a guy with one DD 9515 and 2 us 1000 watt amps with a $500 system. the last comp i was at was an idbl/dB drag event and i scored a 147.2 dB with a single brahma 10, beating out guys in the dB drag event with pairs of 12's, and unfortunately there was no one else qualified for stock 1 in idbl, which is why i did both comps. and i beat guys using a box designed for SQ as a daily driver:p any decent installer will tell you it's all about the install and setup, not the equipment. and it still pisses off the shops around town that i can out do their many thousand dollar systems with a several hundred dollar system. i'm not sponsored. i don't want to be. i do this as a hobby. and i try to get loud AND sound good while doing it:p i drive my car everyday, so i have to. but when i do build an extreme vehicle, i'll get back to you:D but till then, when you can satisfy the requirements for stock 1 class, and use only one 10, let me know what you hit;) cause right now you are comparing apples and oranges.
i never told you that you couldn't do anything. i said it would be very difficult. do yourself a favor and reread what i said;) i am only speaking from my experience, which is all from systems that sound good, and are in stock 1 or 2 classes. i'm still researching about the physics involved with higher level comp classes, which you obviosly know a lot about. and when the time comes, i would ask you for help based on your experience and knowledge. and as you say, this is a discussion, not an arguement:D
peace

BTW, any chance of getting a deal on a XXX 15? i'm trying to decide between a XXX, brahma, DD, treo, etc. price is a big factor for me

Bravo...I am glad you did not go out drinking before providing a reply.:D I had a feeling this would get ugly, but it didn't.

I know I am very disappointed. You guys are to damn mature in here :D.
This is the most abnormal audio section on the internet, everyone gets along (notcool)

(rofl)

Ok I am not familiar with idbl because It is not in my area I compete usaci and last yr I competed db drag at like 2 shows. So I cant comment on the rulse or classes. Now what I was refering to being in stock class is all below the glass and no extra batteries and 1 farad worth of capacitors. But as you know in the right box anything is obtainable. In my opinion a 150 is an obtainable score with 1200 watts in the right box.But I myself have the luxury of having a meter to tune my boxes with if my box building program doesnt do the trick:D

The guy sponcered by adire's name is Marshall for the life of me I cant remember his last name but with him using re stuff he doesnt have to compete in pro because he is not sponcered by them. He lives in another state I just hear my bro david talk about what kinda #'s he's doin. Now I want to point out I have never built an extreme vehicle. All of mine have competed in either stock or modified class all all of the #'s in my van are with NO sound deadening.Theres alot to improve on.I can prob get you a deal on the RE stuff just let me know what you want and ill see what I can do.I got to get back to work now ill be back Thanx

triplexkustomz, well, i just finished typing a nice long reply, but the ******* computer screwed up and the page couldn't be displayed:mad: so here's the condensed version:D idbl stock class requires that the enclosure be in the OEM cargo area and stock 1 is having woofer area under 160 sq in. as well as only one amp per sub, one cap per amp, and one extra battery. with the right box anything is attainable, but building the right box takes time. i went through 4 different boxes till i broke 150 with the MOFO and 1200 watts;) do you know anything about the terra sonde car meter? or the X-meter? i'm looking into buying my own meter and was trying to decide between a few. any recomendations? also, i'm looking into either a single XXX 15 or dual 12 setup. and do you know anything about RE replacing the 35.1? i heard about it from someone that they were coming out with a new amp for this year, but their site is still being worked on:(

1st, sorry, no arguements here, except that sony is the best car audio company in the world:p and yes, RE stands for resonant engineering, and their subs have killer SQ, especially the XXX;)

My friend david from re is originally from memphis tn. I am traveling there tomorrow to see him he is in from vegas for the week so Ill ask about the amp. I am not familiar with those meters the ones I am are The Kriss meter (which I own) The termpro meter (db drag) and the Audio toolbox. Thebest for the $ is by far the new db drag USB mic all you have to have is a pc to hook it up to it is $599. It has TONS of extra usefull software and is a pretty stiff meter.Other than that Id try to pick up a used audiocontrol meter (Usaci) there nice and have a gain control also.My kriss meter reads within .5 db of an audiocontrol on 0 setting but they dont make em anymore I dont think. The link for the termpro meter is www.termpro.com I have heard nothing but great reviews. Ill let yall know bout the amp when I get back PEACE!!

thanks. i heard about the amp from another audio forum, and thought it might be something new for their new linup, or next year. i'll probably end up getting the dB drag mic, since it's the most cost effective;) last time i checked their site it wasn't listed, but i had heard about it. that's the new one that is uneffected by pretty much everything, right? i'm going to have my friend by the audio control RTA when he opens his shop, but that's a ways off. probably not till next summer:(
