Question about ms6 turbo

I am thinking about buying a mazdaspeed 6 and i was just wondering if to put a bigger turbo into it would i have to do anything more to the engine or car in general?

The turbo either being a gt3071r or the gt3076r...please let me know if and what i would have to do to the car in order to support the bigger turbo

I'm pretty sure you would want to do a few other things at minimum. There are a few bigger turbo threads around, take a look at them. I'd be worried that a) the new turbo would be hamstrung by not enough air and fuel, and b) that the engine would not be happy just having an increase in boost and nothing else in the chain. Based on my limited experience, I'd have to say doing the turbo on its own is a bad idea and that you would want to look at intake, fuel pump internals, tuning, and exhaust parts too.*

*No actual experience with big turbos.

This car isn't a simple "bolt up a turbo and go" application like some other cars. If you're serious, you're looking at upgrading the cam driven fuel pump (CDFP) internals, changing the manifold to an external wastegate (to avoid boost creep), and getting some sort of tuning. I'd also recommend a set of upgraded internals, since our cars are tempremental when it comes to upped boost levels, especially from more efficient turbos.

That said, there is still a lot being learned about the DISI MZR, and companies are trying to unlock and push through the 'wall' that people see at around 400 hp with a big turbo and supporting mods.

If you're looking for more power, I'd suggest a 3" turbo back with hi-flow cat, intake, inlet, upgrade the CDFP internals, and some sort of tuning solution. You'll get as much power as possible without going with a bigger turbo or manifold change (although you can buy upgraded manifolds for the stock K04).

Does this have almost everything I need other then an intake?

If your looking for huge power than the speed 6 isn't for you. Maximizing the potential on the stock turbo / internal setup your looking at around 320whp depending on the dyno. Upgrading the turbo is a real bump in expense and your only looking around 340-350whp. To get over 350 you really need to start customizing and know what your doing.

If you still wan't to go big turbo than you should look at the Race Roots turbo setup. They have a thread on these boards. Their kit contains almost everything you need. And they have a speed 3 with that setup running low 12's pushing 400whp.

Thats what I would do if I were to go big turbo.

RX-8s are more unreliable than modded MS6s.

What is your goal with your car? Track, speed, etc?
