Reffoxel said:If you want to protect your CF components without having to wax weekly the best thing to do is take the hood to a reputable custom paint shop and have them spray it with a couple of clear coats with a UV inhibitor. The fading is not due to the CF actually fading but due to the expoxy/vinylester/polyester resin pitting due to reaction to uv light and exposure to pollutants in the air. Yes, you'll pay 300-400 dollars but will save you alot of work down the line. Unless you love to wax your car.
Yea what he said! But seriously, what he said is correct! You can also avoid fading by buying products from reputable dealers. I am sure DGMotorsports is more than reputable for a hood especially at the price they charge, but I haven't bought any CF products for my car just yet. I know with my other car, visracing.com was known as one of the best producers of CF hoods because there weave is so clean and they try there hardest to make it "UV" resistent(or whatever you'd call it) for the buyer!
But yea, let us know what you end of doing and all and make sure you share your experience!!
P.S.-You said you are going to paint it, well when they paint the good they will probably just clearcoat it all together so the the paint doesn't have an open edge where it meets the CF... but yea, make sure you ask!! Hell, ask them if they would spray a light mist of red pearl on it for you, I think it would look hot! You wouldn't know it had the pearl until certain angles and than it would show a red, but that is my opinion! It might turn out pink... :-\
