"Down" of the Dead?

LOL. Yeah, I thought the same thing when I saw somebody brought it back. At least they're doing their research and not opening new threads to rehash old info. (ughdance)

Yeah it was an old thread all right :)! Im currently looking for a catted midpipe so Im browsing around the forum. What would you guys suggest between the one from Apex or MAM? MAM is definitely cheaper thats for sure :)! Any rubbing issues or problem with any of them? Is there others companies that do one?

Thanks

Well, be aware that the Apex downpipe and the MAM mid-pipe are not identical pieces.

The Apex dp replaces the J-pipe and mid-pipe with one piece.
The MAM mp replaces just the mid pipe, not the J-pipe.

My understanding is that both will yield decent results, but the MAM will still be held back somewhat by the restrictive J pipe.

I haven't heard of any problems, but the way I look at it is that the more pieces/flanges you have, the more chances there are for leakage. Why not just get one piece that replaces both sections? Those were my thoughts on it, anyway.

I have the MAM 2.5 hi flow cat mid pipe. It was a great addition to my setup, and gave some nice gains in the upper rpm's. The car has a nice sound now, nothing much during regular driving but at WOT its nice, not ricey or going to attract to much heat. The mid pipe did rattle at ~2000 rpms and on start up, but after adding kartboy hangers it has stopped.

If I were to do it again I would get the vibrant exhasut, but the MAM is a good piece.

I agree, but is the small JPipe section on the Apex worths an extra 200$ !?

It wasnt loud, but it was annoying which is why i bought kartboy hangers. The hangers dont allow the mid pipe to rattle any more. THe hangers were like $25.
Also, I believe MAM has revised the current model of mid pipe to fix that issue.

Ok cool, thanks for the info :)!

FWIW, the j-pipe is only 1.75" (from what i've been told), so it makes a good amount of sense to replace that. Would it be worth $200 extra?? I dunno, thats why i bought used!!

And why would it be that bad?
I have the APEX 3"DP,it ways more the my full 3" thermal exhaust.

mild steel also corrodes easy, and cracks easy(this has been proven with this DP)

I could buy a used Apex downpipe and I was wondering if there was any issues with this downpipe that I should know? Like, I heard that it could crack near the connection with the S-Pipe because of the movements of the engine !? The stock one has spring to absorb those movements!

thanks

No, the Apex downpipe has a flex joint, so this isn't a concern.

The ceramic heat coating may start flaking off after a few months, but you can fix that with a wire brush and a can of thermal paint.

The coating on the downpipe or on the flex joint? And thanks for the info by the way! Do you have one? If so any rattling issues?

thanks

The coating on the downpipe. Flex joints aren't usually coated.
I do have one, and there is no rattling. Just make sure you follow Apex's instructions regarding inserting washers before reinstalling the crossmember.
