PS2 or XBOX

too bad gt4 isn't going to be an online multiplayer.. they'll release another version behind it that will support online multiplayer, but then they're getting your money twice..

xbox all the way.. especially if you want to play online.. no extra hardware to buy.. has a built in ethernet port.. plug in a patch cable to your router and you're online.. plus it's ~$6 a month to play all xbox live games.. you don't have to pay for each title.. look me up in Project Gotham Racing 2 (PGR2) or other games as "fkjnfr" .. see ya!

dexter, i'll trade you my extra large style controller for an s-type if you have it.

no ps2 games on xbox... ever ... ps1 however, can you say castelvania sotn

if you have an HD setup, then xbox is the way to go, some of the games OMG, like Kotor, the backgrounds just totally come alive. and almost every xbox game has 5.1 surround sound

Forza Racing. Same like GT4 but with Xbox live ready and Xbox graphics.

Try a couple of games from either console by either renting them or go to your friend's place, then decide.

XBOX. Internal HD, upgrade to 260 gig, get the chip... Gamefly... You know where I'm headed. Store everything, right on the HD, no disks needed. And you still have the ability to play the PS2 games. Hands down XBOX

what is all this ps2 on xbox?

i've been looking all over xbox scene and i've found nothing of the sort. sure you can do ps1 games and other emulators, but no luck with ps2.

i did gamefly for a while - just beware - the total turnaround time is like 10 days per game (2-3 days to get to you once they send it, and like 4-7 days for them to receive it and process it). they were real friendly to work with, but the turn around time was just a b**** considering you pay by the month.

gt4 or not, I would never buy an ps2 right now. Looking ahead into the next year, all the best games are on xbox

Besides, nothing beats a good mod'd xbox...nothing.

Gamefly was just an example, better to use someone local like Blockbuster. $20 unlimited rentals.

And for the ps2 games you'd need to find a ps2 emulator. I'm sure they're out there.

I'd take a PC with a playstation like controller for any game that happens to be available on PC and either game system.
SMARTEST COMMENT EVER! PC games OWN console games. HL2 deathmatch with over a 100 custom maps of PURE CARNAGE! nuff said...
Of course Halo2 aint half bad either (cool) or GT4 or Soul Caliber II on the Gamecube.
Bacially they all kick ass but I prefer having at least 4 PCs that are fully capable of playing the latest games and hosting LAN parties about once a month. I know you can play online but a good ole fashion LAN is still more fun to me. XBOX's with keyboard and mouse combos also make for some good LANing...

Whoever the idiot is that keeps saying you can play PS2 games on a modded XBox - NO. There isn't an emulator available that can do it and even if there was the XBox doesn't have enough power to emulate PS2 games worth spit. Hell it can BARELY handle PS1 games -- even those run slower than the originals.

I have all 3 consoles with my XBox modded. I still end up playing my PS2 a lot more however because of the controller. In order for me to like any controller it has to have a good d-pad (not the joysticks) and hands down the PS2 has the best d-pad. Nintendo used to make the best until they made their D-pads super ultra small for 3 year olds. The XBox d-pad big time sucks and is the main reason I don't play XBox. You can get controller converters to use PS2 controllers on the XBox (I have a bunch) but it still just isn't the same. Even though I rarely play my XBox I still love it -- like Newf said you can't beat having all of those emulators on 1 box ready to play at any time.

Go with the PS2. Better games, better controller, free online play for nearly every game, built-in ethernet just like XBox.

Had the Xbox for 2 years and loved it. Just got the PS2 for the kids for Xmas and already I am dissapointed. Sure it has way more games than Xbox, but the quality of the graphics is pretty poor in comparison. We have a flat-screen 32" TV that the PS2 is on and a regular 27" CRT that the Xbox is on (was previously on the 32"). The Xbox graphics on the CRT manhandle the PS2 graphics even on the flat-screen. Not what I expected at all.

Also, you have to have a memory card to even save game characters on the PS2 whereas you can save everything on the Xbox right out of the box.

Of course, online gaming for the PS2 is FREE while I pay $10.00 a month (CAD) for the pleasure of having my ass kicked by some cheat-wielding, snot-nosed jackass on the Xbox.

I must say that I am basing this on the experience of only a few games (SOCOM, Metal Gear Solid 3, and WWF something-or-other), so I may have a slightly jaded view. However, I wasn't sure what to get before I got the Xbox, but went with the Xbox for what seemed to be a superior system. This was despite the fact that, at the time, GT was my favourite game of all time. I got the PS2 for the kids so that I could get GT4 when it comes out. Now that I have both systems, I am glad that I went with the Xbox initially rather than the other way around. Perhaps I was spoiled by the Xbox so that my expectation were higher, but I wouldn't really put the PS2 much higher than my kid's old Nintendo 64. This, of course, is only my opinion.

Like I said, I didn't do my box so I don't know the specifics, just going by what I was told. I own a ps2 so I havn't tried it at all, although I have been able to play every other consol I've tried. Maybe it can't play ps2 games.......even if it can't the xbox still owns. No need to result to person insults, especially on Christmas.

where do you get free online for the ps2? does it need to be a modded ps2, and if so what exactly do you need? my best friend has final fantasy 11 that he got for his birthday last year and hasn't played it. I'll tell you one thing, I saw the intro to that game and was totally blown away and it is better than xbox games.

There are only like 5 (or fewer) PS2 games that aren't free....problem is Final Fantasy 11 is one of them. Basically all PS2 games are free with the exception being the few MMRPG games like Final Fantasy. Note that by "free" you still have to pay for your own internet access....by free it means that Sony doesn't charge a monthly fee like Microsoft does.

took home a infocus video projector from work for over the holidays.

Set it up down in the rec room. Just spent the last 4 hours playing halo 2 , co-op (split screen) on a screen that's over 90" with the 5.1 setup and all. It was also capable of HDTV and 1080i.

I'm in love. I have to get one of these projectors. But, killer is they are expensive to maintain.

Reliability:
Both Good.

Games:
PS2 has lots of games, and lots of great games. But Xbox is on the rise fast, and though it still doesn't have the Quantitiy of games the PS2 has, there are a lot of great games on Xbox.

Ease of controls:
I like the Xbox "S" controller over the standard Dual Shock PS2 controller. I feel it sits in my hands better. the black & white buttons can be hard to use no matter what xbox controller you use.

Price of system/games: About the same right now.

I own both, love both, and play both, but I have xbox live and play my xbox WAY more than my PS2.

Modded Xbox + XBox live = u are ****** in the next few month. Cuz MS is going after people now with modded xbox.

I don't play my PS2 much anymore. I just use it as a DVD player which XBox can't do without a seperate DVD remote/hardware to unlock the software which is like 30 dollars.

Besides if i wanted Xbox games, it will always be on PC because XBox is besically a windows machine with directX render engine. The games on my PC will which is always be faster, smoother looking, better graphics, easilier to control(keyboard and mouse) and more online compitable then Xbox will ever be. So I use my PS2 for games like Ace Combat 5, GTA SA and GT3/4 which will never come out for the PC.

the best controller ever was Reg. nintendos... Start, select, A , B and the D pad w00t...
