Protege5: Harder, not Smarter!

Took the car to some certified scales today to get a base weight to compare it too when I do the lexan/doors/hatch.

I filled the gas tank to full just a 1 minute drive away.

Car currently weighs 2,320 pounds without driver and a full tank of gas.

Weight with an empty tank of gas + no driver would be around 2,230 pounds.

Do I win the lightest award yet? (thought)

I think the MP5T is still quite a bit lighter.

2000 Lbs is unlikely unless you start replacing major components with aluminium or carbon... and remove stuff.
My car currently has no wipers in the front and rear, No Heater or AC, Gutted interior and still is over 2230 LBS with an empty tank.

Ours cars are the same weight at the moment?

but anyways....I really gotta make that hood look nice...It works atm but I swear its impossible to make fiberglass smooth...I don't know how they people do it xD

Anyways...I'm gonna rip apart my little T-25G turbo which was sourced off a Nissan S13 and rebuild it this coming month. Planning on running 14 psi when its all said and done. Max boost is achieved at around 2800-3000 RPM, so this little guy should be a rocket ship with no turbo lag. Will be great for autocrossing and running those Pacific Raceways track days!

Yes...I was bored and decided to post this randomly...hmmm...I'd better just go work on my hood...

The end is in sight for the hood!!! (cabpatch)

I took measurements of the stock hood and and cut off the excess fiberglass along the edges with my handy dandy dremel.

I used cardboard cutouts to measure the hard cuts like the part that fits around the headlights and the curved part on the windshield side.

Pretty much screwing around with very small imperfections now before I get it painted up.

Sorry, but the fit of that hood is terrible man. Are you planning to clean up that front edge any? And the gap to the fenders are huge.

The hood wasn't fitted or anything I just threw it on to take a picture and yes there is still work to be done on the edges. But it is what it is, first time ever even using fiberglass I think its come out damn well. Next thing I make I'm sure will go alot smoother overall.

Are you going to remove the rear spoiler? All it does is create a dead zone in the aerodynamics.

A few other suggestions...

Shave the door handles
Remove the passenger side mirror (not required for inspection in most states)

I had actually planned on removing both mirrors and replacing them with internal convex mirrors. The law here does not specify whether the side mirrors must be located inside or outside the vehicle.
I had a lengthy discussion with some of the law makers here in Washington about them and got it ok'd. But I just know if I do it I'm gonna get pulled over at least 9782 times per week. (thought)

Ok having second thoughts about what color to paint the hood...

I've been planning to paint it using the same red spraypaint I've used on my strut towers and parts I've cut out or drilled out. But it is more....umm... bright red? than the p5's stock p5 and I think on a big piece like the hood the difference would show up more.

Now I'm thinking...black? Probably would hide dents/imperfections better?
