Project Pay2Play: My Eunos Cosmo has arrived!

Thanks! I can't wait to get it but I'll have to wait until I get back...it will be available for pickup on the same day and around the same time as my flight!

Update on the ride...The guy I've been dealing with at my local Mazda dealer has been awesome...Amazing work and customer service...Not only has he been taking extra care of the Cosmo, he even did a few things on my list free of charge AND even then discounted the maintenance work.

Granted I've spent some decent hard earned dough there already but I'm totally satisfied...Which is such a relief when I think about my dealer experiences in the States.

More good news...I'll be picking it up on Saturday...(woowoo)

Even more good news...They confirmed my 20b is in excellent condition...which was great to hear...Glad I didn't buy a lemon!

UPDATES! :D

As mentioned in the above link/thread...I got the Cosmo back from its TLC session at the Mazda dealer...Big thanks to my friend for hooking me up with awesome customer service! (2thumbs)

Replacing the aged and scratched a-pillar covers with brand new pieces and removing the window visor things turned out even better than I had imagined!
IMG_1225-MF.jpg

I had them coated with some all-weather coating which is all the rage in Japan...apparently the previous owner had the entire Cosmo coated but I think it expired last year...Still looks good though!

I installed the new wiper arms as well...flat black and beautiful!

The above updates were worth every penny...err yen! :D It definitely cleaned up the front and brings out the natural lines of the Cosmo...(woowoo)

As of now...

Done & done:
* Oil & Filter Change (I'd like to do this myself someday when I actually have a GARAGE)
* ATF (Auto Tranny Fluid) Change
* Install new factory A-pillar covers with special all-weather coating
* Remove window visors (these things are one of the most popular car accessories in Japan but I just don't dig them plus I'm sure it doesn't help the drag coefficient :p )
* Adjust Doors to fit just right (the doors are long, big and heavy suckers...after 12 years they need a bit of adjustment...especially the driver-side door)

On order...waiting to pick up!
*AutoExe CF RamAir intake
*AutoExe Pluggies

Most wanted list:
*In-dash 2din HDD Navi unit!

Future potential:
*HIDs!
*Okuyama/Carbing cooling plate (not sure how really effective this piece is but it does dress up the engine bay a bit :) ) Still undecided on this one...

*Okuyama Strut Tower Bar

*and much more...:p

on pretty much any FI car, a thermal spacer will be a pretty big help in lowering intake charge temps. So, assuming it's designed properly, it ought to help. Some of the MSPs around me have them, and the intake manifold stays significantly cooler than on mine, and I'm not blowing compressed air through mine ;)

They sure are...When I was hunting down a Cosmo...I sat in the Type-E.CCS which is the luxury version just like in that pic...The seats are very comfy but they felt too soft for my taste...one of the reasons that sold me on the Type SX (sport/luxury) I ended up buying was the interior...The seats are super comfy but also very supportive + the drivers seat has 3 individual points of adjustment within the seat (you can adjust it to be like a racing seat...literally holding you in...I currently have it set up to be comfortable but firm for "spirited" driving)...plus I dig the all-black leather/suede combo...It's silky smooth. :)

Very nice ride Antoine. I can see why you like that car, it's beautiful.

I don't know if you saw it my radio but I installed a Kenwood DNX7100, GPS, DVD, USB, MP3. GPS is Garmin.

Thanks!

I couldn't help but notice a sweet looking in-dash unit when you got in your Miata...Definitely a nice unit...I'm still undecided about which one I'd like to get but luckily I'm in no hurry...A decent fully featured unit in Japan starts at around $1800 but there are a few offerings priced over $3000!

We'll see :)

I've got a couple AutoExe goodies waiting for me to install when I get back...(woowoo)

Nice, would like to see pics of what you finally install.

AutoExe UPDATE! :D

Let's get right into it...;)

Your looking at the AutoExe ram air intake for the JC Cosmo..It's a pretty simple unit but well made with 100% CF...notice the K&N filter..The filter element is shaped like a cone with tip being a small chrome cap..behind the filter there is a small chrome missile like tip...

Just before taking out the stock air box...
IMG_1684%20(Medium).JPG

Finally got the box out...As you can see...It leaves quite a bit of space between the headlight and strut tower...Notice the rubber tube popping up from the bottom...That's where the stock setup gets cool air...Now it provides the engine bay with cool air...I'm not sure if I'm going to leave it like that or modify it somehow...
IMG_1688%20(Medium).JPG

Here the stock airflow meter has been taken off the stock box and combined with the supplied intake horn...this setup attaches directly behind the CF intake...Looks like a turbo or mini jet engine :D
IMG_1697%20(Medium).JPG

I like the simplicity of this setup...It's basically a straight shot into the turbos...feeding them with deliciously cold air (thumb)
IMG_1731%20(Medium).JPG

IMG_1754%20(Medium).JPG

Another view...The intake feeds off the air from behind the headlight and radiator support/frontend area...
IMG_1742%20(Medium).JPG

Now on to the AutoExe pluggies....It seems like the stockers were the original set on the car...They still worked but were in pretty bad shape from being rotary roasted since '95!

The AutoExe ones are beefed up in every area compared to the stockers...
IMG_1698%20(Medium).JPG

Just look at the contacts...
IMG_1702%20(Medium).JPG

and the boots...
IMG_1706%20(Medium).JPG

Man it was a lot easier to install plugs on a 4banger...Here I had to reach deep down into the engine bay...wiggle my hands around to get the boots on the plugs...However, I did get a great view of the actual 20B and I'm a little more familiar with the Cosmo engine bay...
IMG_1711%20(Medium).JPG

I couldn't use the stock plug holders so I had to route them in a different way with the Autoexe supplied ones...certainly more visually appealing then the stock setup imo :)

After I finished installing the above mods...I headed out for a short drive around town...I've got to say even though these mods were fairly basic and simple...The car does feel goood...real goood ;)

Here's what I noticed...

- Idle is a lot more solid and steady

- Engine noise has not increased but the sound of the turbos has...BIG TIME! :D The sound of the turbos spooling and "wooshing" is a lot more pronounced now...I can't get enough of that sound! (2thumbs)

- Throttle response has been greatly improved which means I have to be even more careful to keep this beast under control...:p

- Power delivery is more refined now...

* Overall the 20B's "heartbeat" has picked up a few BPM now thanks to these simple but effective mods...

I really can't get over how cool this car is. I didn't know alot about them until you picked this baby up. The car was definately ahead of its time. Even now it has a very modern look to it. It's sporty and classy all in one package. (thumb)
