The 626 blew a brake line about a week ago. You can tell I'm in procrastination mode, as all I've managed to do so far was get the car up on some ramps... They aren't high enough to have any room to work under it, and I don't think that jack stands would even be much better. I might end up caving and calling a shop about the lines.
Code brown..
I cut the limiter bushings off of my Contour 17mm RSB, as they won't do anything on a 626. The 626 brackets mount farther in, rendering them useless. Plus I needed an excuse to use my new grinder.
It says 17mm on the bushing
In other news, my new mount from K6F is in the mail. When I tried to install the front mount last week, we just couldn't get the holes to line up with the bracket on the motor. One side was too far one way, any the other side was too far the other way, making us think that the mount was actually crooked. I contacted K6F and he said he must have made it backwards in the jig, and said he'd send one right away. I'm happy with how he handled the situation.
First time my car's had the hood off, daww
I..
hate.. salt...
Front mount, stock on left, obviously
Soooon my friend, soooon (foreshadowing the swap)
Trans mount, interestingly, a few things are deleted on the K6F mount. First, the mount for the stock airbox (understandable, who keeps that?), second, the mount for the fuel filter (umm, kind of important), and third, the lower bolt mount that attaches to another spot on the trans, I'm not sure what the point of deleting that is...
Stock crap
Me dremeling out the bolt holes on the bracket that attaches the mount to the frame. The mounts included larger diameter bolts that just barely didn't fit, I could have threaded them through, but I didn't want to harm the threads (OCD, lol)
Passenger mount, so much smaller
It just barely didn't fit against the timing belt cover, in this pic it's pushing the cover in, and I was worried it might rub on the belt (again, ocd)
Here it's overhanging the cover
Weight savings, via dremel
The stock mounts weren't ripped, surprisingly, but after 16 years, they've seen better days
Sick custom fuel filter bracket Evan rigged up with some scrap aluminum
I dunno how visible it is, but the front mount is sitting a bit crooked, which is why it didn't work.
Just replacing the two side mounts made a huuuge difference in the feel of the car. I really like the vibes, I think it just draws the whole car together. It's hard to explain.
