Prince Valorum's 95 626 Build Thread

There have been a few making them on PT recently, one of them might make a second one for you..

The 626 blew a brake line about a week ago. You can tell I'm in procrastination mode, as all I've managed to do so far was get the car up on some ramps... They aren't high enough to have any room to work under it, and I don't think that jack stands would even be much better. I might end up caving and calling a shop about the lines. :(

Code brown..

I cut the limiter bushings off of my Contour 17mm RSB, as they won't do anything on a 626. The 626 brackets mount farther in, rendering them useless. Plus I needed an excuse to use my new grinder. ;)

It says 17mm on the bushing

In other news, my new mount from K6F is in the mail. When I tried to install the front mount last week, we just couldn't get the holes to line up with the bracket on the motor. One side was too far one way, any the other side was too far the other way, making us think that the mount was actually crooked. I contacted K6F and he said he must have made it backwards in the jig, and said he'd send one right away. I'm happy with how he handled the situation.

First time my car's had the hood off, daww

Soooon my friend, soooon (foreshadowing the swap)

Trans mount, interestingly, a few things are deleted on the K6F mount. First, the mount for the stock airbox (understandable, who keeps that?), second, the mount for the fuel filter (umm, kind of important), and third, the lower bolt mount that attaches to another spot on the trans, I'm not sure what the point of deleting that is...

Me dremeling out the bolt holes on the bracket that attaches the mount to the frame. The mounts included larger diameter bolts that just barely didn't fit, I could have threaded them through, but I didn't want to harm the threads (OCD, lol)

Passenger mount, so much smaller

It just barely didn't fit against the timing belt cover, in this pic it's pushing the cover in, and I was worried it might rub on the belt (again, ocd)

Here it's overhanging the cover

The stock mounts weren't ripped, surprisingly, but after 16 years, they've seen better days

I dunno how visible it is, but the front mount is sitting a bit crooked, which is why it didn't work.

Just replacing the two side mounts made a huuuge difference in the feel of the car. I really like the vibes, I think it just draws the whole car together. It's hard to explain.

Nice! Yeah, I like the solid feel of the poly mounts. I actually just had to replace the rear one on my Maxima this weekend as the stock one had completely torn on both sides, lol.

i love to see all the pics! and i'd have to admit that the stiffer motor mounts make all the difference in throttle response! i love 'em!

Car's in the shop currently getting some new brake lines, and maybe fuel lines, too. It feels like cheating not doing it myself, but I don't have the facilities at home to do it (at least on the underside). I've replaced the front left brake line and hose on it before, bending my own line, and I have to admit, it wasn't really a bunch of fun. :p

I plan to replace all of the lines and upgrade to SS hoses when the motor is out. I've got plans for the Mazda6 BBK, and 5th gen 626 rear disk swap, but not until after the new motor. The last thing the FS needs is to overcome even more rotating mass!

Haha very true. I have not put the Reidspeed BBK on my PGT yet, because I cannot put 15s on the car for the track with those brakes on, so I am holding off until I get the track results I want out of the new motor. sad thing is I have had the setup sitting for almost 5 years now, lol.

i like this thread (thumb)

Thanks a bunch! You've got the nicest looking Protege sedan I've ever seen, I really love the color.

Diggin this! Looks like super quality work!

That means a lot coming from someone that does work like you do! ;)

Still waiting to finish painting the new (to me) Contour RSB and the replacement K6F front mount. It's like the freaking Amazon in Ohio right now with humidity for some reason. It feels terrible, and isn't good for painting, either!

good work so far Wes and I agree about the weather sucking

*sings*Sub a dub dub three men in a tub...

Whoops, thought I was subbing to a Miata build thread...

Lol, bastard

I wimped out and took the 626 to a shop for the brake lines...

Talked to the shop today about the 626. He said he got ambushed with a project or something this weekend, and he said he'll do his best to have it done by Wed. I dropped it off on the 26th and was told 3-4 days. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, as I know how things can pop up, but if it's not done by Wed, I'm going to be pretty steamed. I want my car back! (cryhard) I could have friggin done it myself by now. I thought it would be quicker this way (I'm a procrastinator, lol), but obviously that wasn't the case.

Sooo.. can't wait to get my car back, sell the Miata, get the truck on the road, and buy a mig welder. Woo!

I'll give you guys a bit of an update.

In the middle of June, I bought a truck. It's a 1989 Toyota Deluxe! It's still young with 217k on the clock, but the odo stopped, lol. I'm going to fix up the rust with one of my favorite purchases:

IMG_9004.jpg

and it'll be my new daily for the winter and next summer as I do the ZE swap.

Dwarfin the Rustata at stock ride height with only 27.5" tires lololol. I noticed the other day the top of the front tire is almost level with the top of the hood of the Miata, haha!

I freakin love this truck already and I've only driven it home, and around town the day I bought it. It's got the 3.0L (3.slow) 3VZ-E with 150chp from the factory. It's 4x4 of course, and manual of course! :)

Unfortunately, I've not been too successful at restraining myself from dreaming up mods for it already.. One of the first will be a custom fabbed rear bumper with the welder I plan to purchase! I think it should be pretty meaty with 1/4 steel, eh?

KL 626 will be much more epicly awesome than any 'ole miata build!
And the truck is awesome as well!
