Plug a Sub?

1) Is it wise to plug up a port in a 10" sub box (about 0.66 cu ft) or should one just rebuild it?

2) If it is plugable, what materials would provide the best seal?

Hmmm....It really depends on the sub. I don't think that you'll be taking away that much of it's firing space by plugging the port. A good 10" should be fine in a .6 cube box...but again...it all depends on the sub.

As for plugging it, I'm not sure what would work best. I know that Got Wake? is one of the people that would probably know, though!

With a box that size using a 10" woofer, I would remove the port and replace it with a Scanspeak aperiodic vent. Here's the discription from their catalog.

SSV Scan speakvent $7.00 each
Scan-speak aperiodic vents are
used in sealed boxes to reduce the
system Q of the box. SSVs allow
you to reduce your box size by
about 25%. Use one up to 1 cf and
2 or more for larger boxes. 4.3
cutout diameter.

I have used these in home subs with excellent results.

rebuild the box to proper specs.

yep:D but if you really want to be ghetto, cut a piece of wood, and screw it over the port. you'll need some weather stipping to seal it up well, too;)
