AWD CX-7 Touring
After a couple of months with my CX 7 touring, here are my thoughts...

  • I still get the feeling of sitting in a (mini)van every now and then... just because I can't see the hood.. (It helps to step on the gas for a little boost :) )
  • I want more power!! (probably comes from the time when I had a bike, where I could go 0-60 in 2-3 secs... or pass a semi, just to find out I was all of a sudden going close to 120... those days are gone though)
  • I sometimes find my self wanting to take it for a ride :)
  • Need some snow, so I really can find out how the AWD handles
  • Missing a proper parking break... that foot break is something that never should be used in a car, no control whatsoever when using while driving (Yeah, yeah I know they aren't meant to be used while driving, but it can be handy)
  • Not too good of a MPG (not too concerned though, if I was I wouldnt have bought it).
  • The AMB should have been there even without the automated climate system... (not really important though, just looks a little empty on the display).

With this said, I really like it so far! Nice ride!

"'I sometimes find my self wanting to take it for a ride" .
Too true. I dream about driving my CX-7 almost every night.
It would be near perfect for these winding New Zealand roads.

Waiting and wanting to get back home.

I think about taking mine for a ride alot since I am out of the states right now. And the I agree about the parking break.

another agreement on the parking brake. one thing i really wish they had included is a way to fold up the bottom rear seat cushion so the seat could fold totally flat. i also wish the interior plastics were a little softer; the surfaces in my protege feel more expensive. also wish for a true manual trans.

other than those small things, it's a frickin' sweet car. more power is always good, but the thing is a freight train on the highway (at least in my experience). i also didn't realize how low the roof actually was until i saw it parked in my lot.

what i want: heated outside mirrors, dualzone climate (never thought i would care but when u dont have it, u actually need it w/a female in the pass seat lol) power passenger seat, middle seat headrest for when i have a full car, rear seat air vents thru the center console, bigger thigh bultsers for the front seats.

Those are nit-picking items. Overall, i love this car, i still stare at it when i park it, and its been the only car i have owned so far that i look forward to driving for extended periods of time or just look for a reason to run an errand. That says alot. The cockpit is an envigorating environment, especially at nite with the red & blue lighting. I like being in this car and i think it translates "sport" extremely well to the driver. It is what it is, and its not bland and it makes a statement.

cheers to Mazda cuz this thing still rocks

uh... on the GT aren't the mirrors heated on the outside already?

"Mirror defroster
To turn on the mirror defrosters, turn the ignition switch to the ON position and push the rear window defroster switch (page 5-58)."

There are rear air vents under the front seats (I believe).

My BIGGEST complaint (and it really irks me) is the sensitivity of the auto-headlights. Yes, I know it's adjustable, but adjusting them doesn't make a different. There needs to be a DELAY on them so they aren't constantly going on and off when you go under overpasses. Yeah, I can understand a tunnel, but a typical highway overpass shouldn't be enough to trigger them (on my much cheaper toyota Matrix, they were not nearly this sensitive).

On dim/cloudy days it's even worse.

It makes them ALMOST unusable. More than a few times now I've just turned the headlights off all together.

I forgot to mention that I miss the auto light feature I had in the Outback... I am used to start the car and the lights are on... Driving with lights on is safer and it is easier for others to see you coming.

and as dmitrik4 says a manual trans would be nice... I really don't understand why it's not an option when it is being or will be sold with manual trans in Europe....

As mikey1981 mentions, there are several "gadgets" I would like to see, but with increased number of gadgets so would the price of the car increase... and I have to be honest and say that if money hadn't been an restriction, there are a few other cars that probably would have been on the top of my list ;)
