Pac Performance Pro RWD/Pro Turbo Mazda 6 dragster

Can't wait to see this thing out on the track! these guys have one mean MX6 that runs high 6's....but they have been running out of chassis for a while... bought the ex-mopar factory prostock chassis and transfered the powertrain out of the MX6 into it....snapped on a carbon fibre mazda 6 front clip and this is what you get:

http://www.pacperformance.com.au/News/article/602.aspx

Apparently running its first pass on boxing day.... given the MX6 was pulling 6.88 - and the chassis is awesome - should run fairly deep into the 6's :)

Powered by a 20B methanol burning engine (unless they've secretly developed a 26B for it...time will tell). I think from memory the MX6 was making 1600hp with room to move up but they ran out of wiggle room in the chassis and it just fried the tires or lurched for the center-line....better chassis will mean it'll throw the power to the ground better, and stay straighter....

anyway...this is for all you mazda 6 fans ;)

those videos made me all tingly where my bathing suit covers!!!

I swear, between y'all and the puerto ricans... y'all have this addiction for all things rotary that I can't tell if it's completely unhealthy or fully awesome... or both LOL

some vid of it... not TOTALLY impressive - big time bog on the line and wheels up, shut down after the 330ft mark - still, its the first time its been out testing.

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=pDYZM2IHvm0&feature=channel (few other cool rotors in there, watch it till you see the 6...)

that freaking s*** just got my adrenaline pumping, watching those RX 2's and 3's and then that Cortina, damn, and you guy's get boxing day off. I wanna move to Australia.

The RX2's and 3's are pretty awesome...couple of NICE series 1 RX7's rolling around too....scary part is MOST of them are backhalf chassis..not full tube chassis beasts...and the HURTLE down the track, wheels up and out of control in under 8 seconds...unfortunatly their reign is almost at an end... With the 2JZ powered full tube cars coming out of the states, the only way to compete is to go all out like PAC have, and drop their engines in proven prostock chassis'. Theres at least one other team doing it too - converting a dodge prostock into a mazda-something 20B powered rocket.

Oh if you thought that was good..the same guy who posted that vid has a 3rd vid in the series...that shows the incar of a totally NA rx3...that runs 9.4's - built for 8.8 - 20B PP at 10400rpm... *drools*...

oh amaff : if you were here, and heard them up close and personal, you'd get more than a slight tingle in your jockstrap.... when those badboys light up the tires and you're only 15feet away from one...(in my case, often BEHIND them while Twilight and I wait in the staging lanes...)....omfg *HORN* :)... the guys in PR often say australia is the "home of rotaries"...we say the same about them - so theres this very healthy rivalry, and mutual respect between the 2 countries... the big power motors come out of here, the best chassis' come out of there... and a little birdy tells me that someone is about 6 months off completing an unholy marriage between the 2 ;)

I saw some bad ass rotaries in PR a few years back, but I never knew Australia had some crazy rotaries like that.

Oh yeah.... rotaries have been a big part of the scene here for years....in fact sport compact piston motors are really only just starting to flex their muscles.

The guys from PR actually brought 3 cars over a couple of years back to race against our guys.... they have some impressive machines... i remember they brought over a KE20 corolla, with full chrome bumpers etc..and a working AM radio... to look at it it looked like a nice resto job...only with massive rear wheels, parachute and wheelie bars - and it ran 7 seconds ;)

another vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bitCbHXrYs#
first run is the one shown in the other vid, from a different angle....2nd run shows the time - car still bogged big time, and seemed to launch for the centreline at half track - driver had to back out of it fairly early - still recorded an 8.8....they are obviously coming to grips with the new powerplant and new chassis ... i shall keep everyone posted as I find out more - it was supposed to be racing today - so we'll see what kind of times it has run in the next day or so.

Bump for another vid....first time in competition...wasn't at this event personally (twiggies car is getting a motor transplant soon so we skipped this meet).

7.18 - baring in mind its only had about 3 shots at the tree prior (the guys that on it have been touring their old mx6 in nz...flew back over the ditch to put the 6 through its paces)..

check out the way it leaves the line... and 1.16 to the 60 footer with a shut off (shook the tires hard)....

New motor apparently has all the good bits (billet center plates, dry sump, peripheral port, and a stonking great big turbo....) ;)

Great...Now I've got a permanent case of goose bumps......HOLY ROTARY...What a BEAST! (rockon)

Thanks for the heads up via PM...Great find/thread...Very cool to see what a 20B is capable of from our friends in OZ! (2thumbs)

Keep the updates coming!

in other news - on one of its runs at that meet (apparent check out launch shut down at 330') it pulled out a 1.06s short time (60 footer) which puts it on par with the fastest piston sport compacts in oz (including the insane ex-titan copper celica, and built to titan spec 2009 solara - both powered by 2JZ's that put down FAR more power than the 20b is ever likely to) - that puts the piston boys on notice....the mazda 6 could see mid 6's in the near future - the guys that own it are insanely skilled drivers and if anyone can do it, they can ;)

Not sure if anyone is still following this thread or not...but its been a while since I updated, and many things have happened.

The 6 has gone into the 6's finally - pulling out a high 6 second pass, on about half the boost that the MX6 required to do the same thing, proving that the prostock chassis really is giving them all the benefit they hoped for. Still coming to grips with the car, the guys have suffered some major setbacks in recent times.

2 weeks prior to the mecca of australian sport compact drag racing, the Jamboree (held last weekend), the 6's second chute failed to deploy, sending the car into the sand trap and damaging the nose cone.

1 week later, fully repaired, a loose fuel fitting caused a major methanol fire, which torched the entire engine bay, destroyed the nose cone, and cooked up their engine management, data logging, and wiring harness.

apparently a full week of elboe grease was required, before the car was ready to rock and roll again, they brought it up here to QLD - and had another disaster. The chutes again failed to deploy, and the driver not wanting to put it in the sand again, hit the anchors - flat spotting and ultimately blowing out the front tires. The car was sent flying into the sand trap at break neck speed, and when the front wheels dug in, it flicked the steering wheel around, hurting the drivers wrist.

A trip to the hospital, and a day of on-track repair work saw the 6 return for the last qualifier, but only managed an 8 second pass. Shame really....

but the car is showing some real potential...i hope they can get their s*** together soon, before the 2J's put the 20B to the sword once and for all :(

That's ridiculous. Love it!

You know, until the chutes didn't deploy... twice... Meant to ask, IIRC the NHRA drivers pack their own chutes over here. Is that the same over on that side of the pond?

yeah they pack their own chutes. I guess though given that its a mechanical thing, it can fail. And then theres the fact of human error (tangled lines)....

they've had an awful run of very bad luck....but it sounds like they are sorting their stuff out.

Its seriously the meanest sounding rotor on the scene at the moment :)

Looks like all their hard work is paying off, I hope they get to their target of 6.50's.
