P5 Top Speed?

ok...i've done about 126mph in a completely stock P5...a little less then 1/4 of a tank of gas...i was on an empty freeway...i can't be COMPLETELY sure but the freeway is pretty flat...

please don't come back and start yelling no you didn't because you don't have the power or you can't because you're drag limited...i'm just stating what i've experienced...no b/s or made up crap...

oh and if anybody is interested the '93 R1 will top off around 150 stock...lol

Lex is a different story... I got to 125 in my Acura TL with 6 people in the car... and it would've went to 140 - 150 easily...
 
well its obvious 118 is a bunch of crap and some people think they know whats up, which is cool, its prolly just his car that can only go 118, anyways, here is a pic of 140

its a msp yeah shut up, i know its not a mp5 but its a pic that shows 140 for s**** and giggles. i will try to get a shot of mine or use my data logging off my laptop from my ecu and post it.

Disclaimer: this was not a stock p5 it was a msp my car is not stock but the point is its potential. you are limited not only by drag but by gearing also and wheel size and auto or manual. the point is simple you can hit over 120 in a stock mp5, its common.

btw, its great we have no governor, if you can get past 120 youd be surprised how many sports cars you can over top out, sad though. peace out- trav
 
for my earlier post that i hit 126 in my STOCK p5...i was trailing my bro in his rx7...after we did the run he said i was running around 125 pacing him until he got bored and punched it...

anyways...the rx7 is fairly tuned along with the data aquisition unit...so i believe that the speeds he reads are pretty accurate...

well call b.s if you all want but the fact is....stock a p5's top speed ranges from 118-125 depending on weather or not you have a stick or auto. not every single stock car is going to run the same factory! there is a slight + or - for hp and top speed.
i have had my stock p5 5 speed up to 122 mph.
and after i put in j-spec cams,mp3ecu,header,cai,ext ive gotten it up to 135.
with mods it didnt get that much more topend it just get's there a hell of a lot faster.:D
 
Remember also that you are driving economy compact cars. They are not built for speed. Be thankful that Mazda engineers even its economy cars with some performance in mind.

If you are hitting 140 mph with a 2.0L 4, you are stupid. You're lucky you didn't destroy your engine. These engines are NOT built to withstand those speeds, even if you've installed components to deal with the heat of the turbo.

I'll be there to call you out when you're bitching next year that your P5 is blown.

I have heard several times that the MP5 does not have a governer.

Then why the hell does my car shut down at 132 every freaken time at only 6000 RPMs in 5th gear. It is no where near the rev limiter either.

It doesn't matter if its on flat highway or going down hill.

At 132 the car shuts down until 130 then resumes.

At 132 it is still accelerating when it hits this "non" existant governer.

I'm basically stock except for my K&N.

Any body else run into this?

Doing top speed runs in the parts of western New South Wales (where Mad Max 2 / Road Warrior was filmed) we saw 313km.h in a de-restricted AMG, that works out to be about 200mph or near-as damnit!

Also saw 270km/h out of a $40k 300hp family car we've got over here called the Holden Commodore SV8 (300hp GenIII 5.7L for $40k incl on-road tax)
 
I have found that the best way to increase your top speed especially if u will be doin future mods is to install a header or eliminate the first cat. Even with my mods the best top speed i posted was 120mph with the pedal floored. I just hollowed my precat and i noticed that @ 110 i had alot of pedal left.....but conditions were against me so i will post my new record when i get to it.
Oh and these engines are built to withstand these speeds...just ask the two Protege SCCA teams Tripoint and AWR....they pull 250hp from the 2.0L and i think there are turbo and NA versions, I mean 120-130 isnt that crazy on these vehicles although driving WOT isnt good to do regularly if one doesnt have some mods to compensate.

Well, this past Saturday Lost_Concept (P5) and I (200) went out and were acting crazy. After the ricer hangout spot and watching some street racing, we decided to do our own top speed test. He punched it and I cruised with him. I barely have to press on the gas to keep up. He got to 120 fairly easily. I cruised with him bit and his speedo read 124 and so did mines. Then I punched and was gone. I got up to 160:eek:. I have NEVER been this fast in my entire life. It was a rush as well as scarry. I don't know if I could've went further, but I released the pedal. My friend in the passenger seat was speechless, but I think he was more scared than anything...lol
