Overheating MS3

WOW... That is huge. Well, at least with the crack they wont want to talk you into machining the head but do a full replacement. That is strange though. I would call them and ask them right away about why that would happen. If they forget about the why it will happen again!

For sure, the original overheating problem will have to be fixed. (Which I still suspect thermostat dammit) The guy said they'd have to talk to corporate to make sure they were going to pay for it or something like that. Hopefully they're not trying to find a reason not to honor the warranty. Everything in the engine bay is completely stock. Do have some aftermarket wheels though (boom05)

Well no rental today. They said they're gonna have a guy work over today and get a diagnosis, that they're behind on work today (guess they're still not positive what the problem is). Said they had to have a diagnosis before they could see about getting me in a rental. They said they'd try to get me in something before the weekend.

Wow...didn't see that coming. I'd be a little concerned if they come back and say it wasn't a cracked head at this point; in other words, do these guys know what they're talking about.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Interesting stuff. I had my ms3 overheating due to faulty thermostat. Here is my thread http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123714700
I was also worried if anything got damaged...cause i was noticing my fan running more often and louder than normal for a few days prior to me realizing the overheating problem. So far so good, after the thermostat change car runs perfect.
As far as rentals go, at the dealership here, back when i had my MSP, when they were out of loaners they offered me to rent a car myself and get reimbursed up to ~ $30 a day, if i remember correctly.

Read you're thread.. unfortunately I looked down just a bit too late I think.. Mine made it all the way up. I knew about turning on the heater dammit, just wasn't thinking, but it came back down pretty quick on it's own.

Uh, oh. The aftermarket wheels and that layer of dust constitute improper mods. You're sunk, now. (boom01)

New update.. After they spoke with the mazda techline they will be replacing the thermostat. So, I'm like ok... how did the compression tests you run turn out... fine they said. So why the hell did they suspect a blown head gasket or cracked head? So Chief Wiggum.. You're a friggin psychic or something. Very good question, do these guys know what they're talking about. Next closest mazdaspeed dealership is in Columbus OH, about a 3 hour drive, so guess I'm stuck with these guys. I'll just be patient with them, since they are finally supplying me with a rental. Thankfully they are calling the rental place and setting everything up so it won't be coming out of my pocket at all. No reimbursement crap to worry with. I'll let you guys know how everything turns out once I get the car back in my posession.

You still have warranty on the car, so if there is a chance of any kind of cracked head, or blown gasket or anything like that - it will become obvious very shortly after you start driving the car again. My guess is once dealer changes the thermostat, your car should be fine.
I know how frustrating this experience must be for you.

You are just kidding right? His aftermarket wheels wouldn't have anything to do with the warranty on anything related to the engine.

I can't believe they would even say anything about the remote possibility of not honoring the warranty. I would have been all over them like R. Kelly on a 14 year old....

If they are actually serious, have them explain the direct technical relation between your aftermarket wheels and the damaged engine. Then quote them the Magnusson-Moss act and ask if they still want to proceed.

Yea, I think it was just a joke. I was playing around myself just because I've seen other members have problems with suspension warranty type of stuff from aftermarket wheels. Even saw one where mazda was giving a guy a hard time because his tires were worn a good bit, so they called it abuse. Reading all these warranty horror stories can make ya a lil paranoid. But I think everything is gonna turn out fine here. I'm thinking the thermostat is all i need, that's what i thought when i took it too them. There were no other symtoms other than overheating. I was floored when they started talking about head gaskets and cracked heads.

I had some problems with modding another car I used to have, so I naturally paranoid. Of course, I will openly admit, it wasn't the dealer's problem. If you add a supercharger, and the radio stops working, I say they better fix it. However, if you blow a head gasket, I say you have no room to complain. I have noticed most people on this forum respect that if they mod their car, they better be ready to accept the risks. It is the whiners who put a turbo back system, FMIC, XPE (?) tuning mgt. system, etc., and then when they mess up their engine, complain that Mazda won't fix --- who give other modders a bad name.

I'm happy for you that it was only the thermostat, but like you say how are you going to trust that dealership if they got it wrong and scared you for no good reason. It's sort of going to the doctor because you feel a bit sick, you've had this bug before, and just want him to give you the right medicine. Then he come's out saying that you have a tumor, and after the studies it turns out that you were right. For sure that doctor wouldn't be my first choice for the next time, but sometimes you'll have no choice.

Hope they don't mess around next time.

+1

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Lol, excellant analogy. Love it.

It happened to me once, that's why I related it :)

My mom went to a dermatologist to get a mole she had had all her life with removed, and the good Dr told her right off the bat it was melanoma. She, being the stoic type, kept a poker face but we knew she really was scared. Doctor removed it and after some studies it ended up being nothing...

Fast forward a couple of years and while running/playing at the beach I literally sand all the skin off my left kneecap. There was no way it was gonna stop bleeding by itself and the only Doctor that was available was that same one. I was soooo angry I had no choice, but had to go with him. He did fix me up, but I'll still rather go with someone else.

I wouldn't want to go to that doctor either, sheesh. Finally got a rental, now pimpin a v6 hyundai sonata. Is it just me or does that car look just a lil too much like an accord. Surprised they can get away with copying like that.

SNAP -- should've bought a lottery ticket.

Good luck!

Wow big surprise! It's like they never took 'troubleshooting 101' which is to rule out the most likely causes first. Honestly, I'd be weary of that dealer.
Anyway, at least they're fixing it.

Yep, I'm weary for sure, but what can ya do? 3 hours to the next closest, not happenin unless I am absolutely forced to do so. Atleast with this experience they've remained polite (I have as well) The tech did come out and give me a hard time about a power wire I put in for a sub I didn't install yet when I went for the radio replacement. He obviously didn't know what he was talking about, said I had to install a x-over for a sub (he was referring to a LOC) I just bit my lip, but boy did I get red after I left. I hate when someone that doesn't know what they're talking about tries to tell me how it is.

lol, let me know when I should buy a lotto ticket chief wiggum.
