Overdue oil change

someone mentioned free oil changes from the dealership? I never knew this. Is that for some or you or all of you guys? Also, if they did, I would assume they would only do it at the factory times like the 7500 in the manual. Is that true? Seems like a long time to have to wait! But if the dealership does it free I can wait a little longer to hit that mark!

There is only 1 right answer to this entire debate. Used oil analysis will tell you the correct oil change interval, tailored to your brand of oil and driving styles. Don't sweat it so much at the beginning. Run the factory fill to 3k, drain and fill with your choice of oil. Run this fill out to 3k, send in for analysis. if it comes back good, run the next fill to 4k, repeat analysis, if thats ok, run the next to 5k and analyze. Once you find the tipping point, stick with it. then only do analysis every third change to keep track of wear.

Free oil changes are not included, they're negotiated and they're NOT free. I won't let my dealer touch my car unless it's absolutely necessary. Folks think the dealer has the edge on maintenance -- sorry, they hire the same knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers everyone has for that type of work. If you have a shop you've done business with for a while, let them change the oil. Just make sure you keep the receipts and they use and specify the right oil.

People need to know that just because mazda specs 5000 and 7500 mile intervals DOES NOT mean that it is not harming the car. After seeing a few stock turbo's in pieces and the disgusting oil sludge all over the turbos, I'm starting to wonder if mazda even did long term testing on this engine at all. For all of you people waiting 5000 or 7000 miles, you need to do a UOA before you start claiming that this interval is not harming the engine. Direct injection is notorious for fuel dilution as seen by several UOA's on the bitog forums. Pennzoil Platinum has been proven as the best oil to combat the fuel dilution. I've been running pp for about 4000 miles now, and will be doing another change next week and be taking a UOA of what comes out. I will post up my results so you all can see.

I didnt think they would do it free, I was wondering tho if the stealership would try voiding warranties if you had it done somewhere else and not on the 7500/15000 schedule. Since they want to make sure it is done with the correct oil and by someone qualified or they may say its not done right. This is my FIRST new car that actually has a warranty so I'm trying to make sure I don't lose it. I know what it's like not having a warranty and paying for s*** that breakes and goes wrong and having to pay for everything out of pocket.

I bought my MS3 from Kings Mazda in Cincinnati. They provide free oil changes at 5000 mile intervals. It was not negotiated; it comes with every new Mazda that they sell. I've been very happy with the Kings service department so far; the only thing I pay for is the Mobil 1 which I bring with me. I've also had two UOAs performed and the motor seems to have broken in nicely. Based on my experience, I think that 5000 miles is an acceptable OCI for this engine. My other vehicles also use Mobil 1 but they are all NA so I run the oil out to at least 7500 miles.

I am at the 3500 mile mark. Just had my first change done @ 3400 miles. Once I get it to 6500 on the odometer (3100) on this oil I will be sending it in, and posting it up as well. Right now it has standard castrol 5w-30 which is what my dealer puts in the speed 3.

My dealer offers a "Customer for Life" program that includes free oil changes (at 7,500 mile intervals). It also includes a few other things, like loaners for service work and a 8 year, 100,000 extended warranty (Speed vehicles excluded :bs: ). Not sure if I'm going to actually use the free oil changes, but it's nice to know it's there if I need it. Of course when the dealer is paying, they do it at factory intervals. When I am paying, they'll recommend every 3,000 miles. It's all about money.

Fuel dilution with DISI turbo cars is an issue. So is oil sheardown. Just go to www.bobistheoilguy.com and check out the Mazdaspeeds in the used oil analysis section.

Usually, the low mileage cars suffer from fuel dilution and wear metal contamination ( suprisingly, copper levels seem to be elevated the most, followed by iron).

The good news is that as these cars get more miles on them, the dilution and metals contamination goes down significantly.

I started my car out at 3500 mile OCI's when new and now, at 16,000 miles, it gets the oil changed every 5000.

I use Pennzoil Platinum oil (because it is Honda/Acura HTO-06 certified) and Mazda filters. If things look good at around 30k miles I may go to a 7500 mile OCI. I'll make that decision then.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it. Cheers!

I bought my car on April 3rd and it's currently June 3rd and i've got 966 miles on the car. I'm thinking it may be a good idea to just get the oil changed sometime soon. Whattcha think?

I stick with the 3 month or 3000 miles depending on which happens first. I would suggest you change your oil now.

Thats what I did, at 1K I dumped all the fluids and replaced them all with Red Line; engine and tranny. I would have liked to do the brakes, steering, and coolant, but I thought it was a big much... (lol2)

But definitely a good idea in general...especially if you are switching to synthetic.

I had around 3500 miles on the car when I took it to the dealership for something other that the oil change. And the service guy kind of gave me a weird look when he saw that I had 3500 miles on it and acted like I was an idiot for not changing it already. Since then I have changed it like every 5000 miles. I just dont trust the 7500 mile concept.
