Ok, SOMEBODY give me a hint with these Spool springs ...

... PLEASE!

I tried installing my Spool's today. Started with the rear. Got everything off without a hitch (didn't even need the spring compressor to get them off) but I could not (COULD NOT!!!) get them installed and lined up right. The stock springs are flattened out at the top, making them seat nice and squarely in the top cap. The Spool's, on the other hand, just keep spiraling up, and won't set in there. They won't sit on the rubber ring between the springs and the top cap! I worked with them for hours, and the only time I got them to sit right, the top cap wasn't aligned with the mounting holes.

Is there a trick or something I'm missing? It can't be that difficult. I've seen pics of Eibach's and H&R's (on the Spool web site) and they look like the top flattens out (no pics of the Spool's, unfortunately).

If nobody has any ideas, I'm selling them.

Anyone interested?

i dont understand what your saying, they should fit fine. the rear are the tall skinny springs. Just line them up so where the spiral ends is right in the groove of the strut.

I had problem with my one back spring, but it was b/c i didnt allign it properly.

I'll try to explain better ...

On the stock springs, the top evens out, so that it's parallel to the ground. You could put a plate on it and it wouldn't slide off.

On the Spool's, they doin't flatten out, they just spiral to the end. If you tried to set a plate on it, it would slide off because it's not level.

If I had the stocks off, I'd take a pic ... maybe I'll have to to explain fully ...

Also, if I have the bottom seated correctly, the top isn't. If I have the top seated correctly, the bottom isn't.

I'm a little frustrated. :D

seat the springs on the bottom of the strut. re-install the strut and then slowly lower the car down and align the spring by hand so that the top and bottom are seated properly. the eibachs i have won't seat properly until the strut is compressed by the weight of the car.

So, it's cool to just jack the car up to do this instead of using jack stands? Just asking because I've read on here that you need to use the stands.

Thanks for the advice - I may get these installed before the weekend yet!

(wiggle) Happy dance!

use stands, but then slowly guide the spring inplace when you are ready to lower it down to the ground, via the jack.

when i have my car on stands i just wiggled them around untill they seated properly.

I Totally understand what you are saying about the top spiral Albert. Mine are exactly the same way!! I got them together and back in(after lots of fighting it), but the damn car looked stock in the back. I remember people saying that they needed time to settle, so I loaded a bunch of crap in the back for about a week, took it out, and it's still the same!! I guess I'll have to pull them out this weekend, or try to fix it somehow.

I ended up taking them to Midas to get the rears seated. I took them off, and gave them the struts and the Spool springs and told them to have at it.

It cost me $60, but they're all on! I'll take some after pics and post the comparison ones (complete with a ruler so you can see the drop).

Mine looks pretty high in the back still, too, but I'll fill it up tonight and maybe load some stuff in the back. Plus I'll just sit my fat ass in it for a few hours and that'll make it settle. :)

mine are still high in the back also. lower then stock, but not as low as i would like.i guess that is just the look of the spool springs.

when i add about 100lbs to the trunk it looks perfect.

But did you leave that stuff in there for good?? I have a two finger gap in the rear, and I can't even get a finger between the tire and fender in the front(the tire is just under the fender). Maybe Terry, or someone else with these springs can shed some light on this, cause iuf I cant get this fixed, I'm gonna hack off half a coil or so. I hate being raked. I don't like the way it looks at all.

yea i took the stuff out. I was just saying i like the look with the weight in, i only left it in for about a week.

If you cut them let me know how it goes. i wouldnt mine another 1/2" to 3/4" more of a drop in the rear. Although i dont want to cut them really.

i took pics with a ruler b4 i lowered it, i have been to lazy to take new pics to see the real drop.

i also have no gap in the front and about 2 in the rear. Maybe we got a defective batch of springs?

Honestly. I thought that too...Even my dad thought it was weird that it didn't flatten out at the top. I wish I had taken pictures of it...Oh well, if I do uninstall them this weekend, I'll make sure to take some good pics of this problem area.

yeah mine are not like that?? If i remember correctly, i layed the factories and spools side by side when I first got them and they were exactly the same. I believe they flattened out on top too.
Mine springs have settled about another .5 inch since install, but my car was not as high as yours after spool install. This pic is about a month ago, and since then they have pretty much stop settling. I have also thought about taking a coil off, but don't really want to. This handles kick ass right now:)

Ok, I just took measurements ...

After the Spool springs my front is .75" lower, and the rear is .25" HIGHER! I don't think it's gonna settle THAT much ...

:wtf: is up with that?

Maybe we got a defective batch of springs?
Did you get yours about a month ago? If so, I think we might have gotten some bad ones. Maybe we'll have to see who got the last batch and what happened with them?

mine are rounded all the way to the end of the coil too........I was thinking this looked wrong but am not having them installed until I pick out some rims so I havent ran into trouble yet.

where's terry??

Okay, here ya go guys. I just un-instaleld my Spool's...
SlamProtege5, have I ever told you how much I love your car?? Oh, yeah, all the time:)
Back on topic...
Mine definately do not lay flat on the top, here's a few pics. These are currently out of the car, while me and my dad figure out what to do...Do these look F'd up to you guys too?? Should I have them cut ands layed down a little, or talk to Terry and get another set?? I need help ASAP, since I need to get my car back together today...THANKS!!
Sorry about the size...it's a new camera:)
