Official Nissan Z "Z34" Thread

I am confused by this statement

"This will be light and small package, that will compete with the Porsche 911 Carerra or Maserati 4.2. What promise."

A large V8, AWD, in an already heavy package. How on green earth is that going to be accomplished?

This plan would move the Nissan into the muscle car and not boyracer category, though, which would be a different and good change for them.

the 350z is not boy racer in any way.....boy racer cars are evo's,sti's,msps,srt4,cobalt, etc.

The 350z is classy.

Disguise hides next 350Z, which gets bigger V6 and folding hard-top option

These are the world’s first pictures of the new Nissan 350Z, spied on test in Germany.

And while it looks similar to the existing car in this heavy disguise, big changes have been made under the skin – including the introduction of a hard-top for the cabrio.

The current 350Z platform will be revised for the new model, and it will use a tuned version of the Infiniti Coup’s 3.7-litre V6. The Infiniti marque will arrive here in 2008 as Nissan’s rival to BMW and Lexus. But the next Z-car is set to deliver more driver thrills.

The newcomer is expected to produce around 350bhp – up about 13 per cent – and 358Nm of torque. A six-speed manual or auto gearbox sends power to the rear wheels. With the coup’s name derived from its 3.5-litre engine size, it’s possible the badge could change to reflect the larger powerplant. Some parts and technologies will also be shared with the brand’s new GT-R supercar, and all will be revealed at November’s Los Angeles Motor Show.

A metal-roofed CC version will replace the soft-top roadster, but will debut later, at the Detroit expo in January. This model will launch in Japan in July 2008, with UK deliveries starting before the end of the same year. As the 350Z is getting more power, the path will be cleared for Nissan to launch its secret new sports car. Work is already underway on a successor to the old 240Z coup, set to cost around 18,000.

What is the car behind the Z? Lexus LF-A or Supra?

Yeah, the Z doesn't look any different, really, but what is that behind it?

Check out how the headlights protrude from the car...I am sure those are just mocked in to make it look like the current version..I bet those are totally redesigned and the shape will be totally different...The rear also looks to have a steeper slope similar to a porshe 911.....All in all in its current state..looks to be the same...but I wonder what is under that front end...even the hood has an interesting bulge in it?

the speculation i read suggested that it was a test mule for a smaller coupe set to accompany the Z, not supplant it.

they should offer that car in primer black. actually looks pretty decent LOL. Ass end looks better.

New Z34 Fairlady Z

The Z34 Fairlady Z (350Z in other markets) will mark a change in direction for the Z-Car lineage, with the present Z33 model passing its image-leading responsibilities to the new GT-R. Nissan has had great success with the Z33 since 2002, not only for commercial sales but on the race track aswell, being the only real sports car in Nissans present lineup. But all this is about to change with the release of the new GT-R, and as a result the next generation Z34 will take a less active role than the current car as an image leading model.

You could say that the purpose of the Z34 will hark back to the Z32 days where it was a secondary GT car, but in 2008 the recipe will be a little different. Starting with the engine and suspension, both will be borrowed from the V36 Skyline Coupe as we reported previously, however the power output is expected to be at least 350ps with adjustments to the VVEL system, and so too the suspesion will recieve unique settings to further differentiate it from its Skyline donor. A 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions will be available, although there are rumours of a 7-speed paddle shift unit that will possibly make an appearance. The styling is one of the hot topics at the moment with a few different rumours and artists impressions going around, but expect to see some cues from previous classic Fairlady Z models and a more rounded, smoother shape than the current Z33 with a more aggressive overall look.

The latest news to surface surrounds the Z34 Roadster model, with a proper metal retractable roof rather than the current models fabric top. The Z34 Roadster model is likely to be joined by a V36 Skyline Roadster also with a folding metal top! Information is thin at the moment on the Skyline convertible but well do our best to present it here as it arises. It does seem though that a little of the old pre-1999 Nissan mentality might be seeping back in with the possibility of multiple similar models time will tell.
As previously mentioned the Z34 concept will be shown at this years LA Auto Show in November, for a debut in July of 2008. The Roadster concept will be shown prior to that at the Detroit Motor Show from 13-27th January.

New Short Wheelbase Fairlady Z to Rival Porsche Cayman S

A downsized Z34 Fairlady Z will follow in the new GT-Rs footsteps, doing battle with Porsche, going up against the Cayman S and BMW Z4 Coupe.

Sightings of an obviously shortened satin black Z33 Fairlady Z in Germany have given rise to speculation that it will be a new budget compact sports car from Nissan, possibly reviving the Silvia nameplate but new information tells us this Z33 test mule is in fact the new Z34 Fairlady Z running on a 100mm shorter chassis, putting it squarely in Cayman S and BMW Z4 territory.

To further differentiate the Z34 Fairlady Z from the V36 Skyline, the shortened chassis will firmly entrench the Z34 as an outright 2-seater sports car as opposed to the Skylines GT car status. The engine however will still be sourced from the Skyline as we reported previously, but with a claimed output of 350ps with some unique tuning applied to the VQ37VHR, its power is slightly above the BMW Z4. The latest news surrounds the inclusion of a 7 speed sequential automatic transmission to be sold alongside a 6 speed manual. Information about this new transmission is scarce at the moment, so well have an update as soon as a clearer picture emerges.
Even with a 100mm shorter wheelbase, at 2550mm the Z34 will still be 55mm longer than the BMW Z4, and 135mm longer than the Porsche Cayman S. It will also be the heaviest amongst the three cars at 1450kg, although this would be slightly offset by higher peak torque (estimated at 38.5kg/m) arriving at 4500rpm, 100-400rpm lower than the German cars. Short overhangs front and rear will give the Z34 a more unique look, with the wheel arches being filled by substantial 19 inch alloy wheels and wide rubber. A lower waistline will also accommodate a lower roofline, which despite a reduction in height, will still be higher than its BMW and Porsche rivals.
