Official 2011 Mazda5 Thread

Mazda needs to do three things to the styling: 1.) tame the smiley face, 2.) completely remove the straight line in the sheet metal that is below the door handles and above the new curved lines, 3.) get rid of the slot where the rear door slides back like Toyota has done on their new M5 clone that SGT posted pics of today. Those things need to happen before it is truly something to behold. In my opinion, they should also keep vertical tail lights. It looks like my mom's stupid Odyssey from the back now.

Makes me wonder if the head and tail lights and even the grille are the exact same ones from the Mazda 3.

What happened to the rear seat vents? And are those fold down trays for the 2nd row seat (behind the front seats)??

The 7th seat seatbelt latch seems to be attached to the seat itself again, I smell an uh oh for the NHTSA approval. No 7th seat, no upgrade.

I'm looking to buy the new model BUT two dealerships told me the new 5 will be released in 2011 as a 2012 model. Some other delearships told me they have no clue. I contacted Mazda USA directly and they couldn't give me release information.

Did the video show the back even once? It's ugly, but that's weird. Ah, watched it again and they showed it from afar at 7:30.

I went to the Mazda Japan site and looked at the 2011 Premacy specs. If the exterior sizes are identical to the NA release...we are getting a smaller mazda5.

Lenght 180.7in
Width 68.9in
Height 63.8in

After seeing the video...

I like better the way the back lights are now than this version. I think the way the lights has always been is a signature of the Mazda 5. But in overall I like it!

I'm still with my opinion, but something that I liked was the 3rd seat on the 2nd row! If it's for 2012 model I hope to buy one! (rockon)

Email from Mazda USA:

"Thank you for your interest in the 2011 Mazda5 model. Unfortunately, Mazda has not announced a release date yet. We will be posting the updates when they become available usually around (late Aug/early Sept) on our website at www.mazdausa.com. Typically new model year vehicles are released around Oct/Nov timeframe. Please check back with us in a few months."

Germany: New Mazda5 is available no later than November

Vienna (dpa) - The second generation of the Mazda5 comes in the autumn on the market. The "sporty" minivan is drawn by early November in the sale.

It should be strongly based on previous price, Mazda spokesman Jochen Mnzinger said on Tuesday in the vehicle presentation in Vienna. Currently, the Mazda5 is 21 190 euros in the list.

The new generation will have again two sliding doors - available with electric drive - and offers up to seven seats. Here, the third row of seats in the car sunk in the ground, and the places in the second row are moved or folded. The boot capacity is 426-1597 liters variable.

Behind the newly designed vehicle front mounted Mazda initially a revised 1.8-liter gasoline engine with 85 kW/115 hp or a new 2.0-liter gasoline direct injection with 110 kW/150 hp. The consumption of the smaller engine was reduced according to the manufacturer by 4 percent to 7.2 liters, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 168 g / km. At the grand aggregate with standard start-stop function of the consumption is about 15 percent to 6.9 liters (CO2 emissions: 159 g / km). A 1.6-liter diesel with 85 kW/115 hp to follow in early 2011.

I don't think getting rid of the centre console will make it any easier to walk between the seats unless you're a little kid. :P

(The purple text above the two way arrow says "Centre Walk Through")

Visited local dealer that I've been in touch with as I've been looking at a 5, and when asked he confirmed that the 2011 model will have the 2.5. Sorry, but I forgot to ask about the 7th seat.

Been following this thread and the new design is growing on me. Mainly because its so "fresh" compared to 99% of the cars I see on the road.

I drove an 08 and they had fixed a lot of interior quirks from the 06/07's so I imagine this one will be a very nice vehicle to drive. If the seats are as comfortable as my P5 they are all right (P5 seats > M5 seats).

I agree. A dealer I was talking to mention that the 2010 5 Grand touring had push start.

I guess it's kind of rude and crude to call them idiots, but I have what I consider to be a decent excuse. I love cars. The people who typically sell them do not. The EXACT package of components and features makes a car what it is. You cannot possibly compare cars without fully knowing and appreciating the differences. I always know more about the cars I'm talking to dealers about then they do. It makes me wonder what they tell people like my mom who have no idea what any car has that makes them unique. Sometimes I think that when I "quit" working for the man and go do what I want, I'm going to go sell new cars. I know it's still making other people money, but I would truly love to sell cars just knowing that people get fair and balanced comparisons of cars before they buy them. Of course, that means I'd have to sell cars that I firmly believe in. Hmmm...

selling cars is hell. and you are correct, the more you know about/enjoy cars, the worse salesman you are. I sold Saturns for a while, and it was difficult, because I knew there were better cars on the market. but the good salesmen didn't know their ass from a hole in the ground, so they could say anything they wanted to. they just flat out DON'T CARE. a good car salesman can sell any car line, doesn't matter. to them, it's just a friggin car.
and trust me, selling cars 'just for fun' won't work. I met a few guys tried to do that, retired guys, and they couldn't deal w/ the pressure from the general manager.

I was a horrible car salesman.
