Official 2011 Mazda5 Thread

I'm a fan of the new taillights...that's about the only styling of my 5 I'm not that keen about (I'll admit they're *very* visible in the current layout).

Would be nice to see one in black to see what that does to the "waves".

There's a (marketing?) video on YouTube showing one on the road, labeled as a 2010...

...where the side-waves disappear at times. And also, it looks like they staged a few shots to be sure they were emphasized (!).

Hey, sometimes the side-sills and hatch spoiler shows-up too, much better :D

oh, and i-stop? Japan only I guess

I agree looks much better with side sills and rear roof spoiler....if you look closely the side sills are the same as 06 thru 2010....

I have to admit, I am a little dissapointed that the new car is so similar to old one. Looks like a styling refresh. Interior is virtually identical, except the dash. I guess they were saving money, and there weren't really too many things wrong with the old one. Unfortunately it doesn't make me want to run out and replace my 2006.

Give me the 6-speed and the 7-th seat and I'll take it regardless of what engine they put in it.

In my case, I don't need the 7th seat. I need the aisle free of obstruction for easy access to the 3rd row. My 10 yr old routinely moves from the 2nd row to the 3rd row when we pick up additional adult passenger. Convenient when it is -30 celcius outside,
as there is no need to go out of the car to transfer to the 3rd row.

Give me a Touring with MT... They sold only few because they only imported few... there is a group would like to have a Touring with MT!

But it's a fold out 7th seat that you can store when it's not needed. :) You know how we have the fold out tray in our North American 5, it's really supposed to be a seat, and the backrest folds down into an arm rest.

Import one from Canada. ;)

What's all involved with that?.....Is there like some special tax you would have to pay or permission?...because up there is where what I want is at

Check with the PA dept of Motorvehicles (check online) to see what the regs are to import a vehicle from Canada.

or, check with customs and border protection... since they are who you have to go through to import.

i know it needs to meet epa requirements.

Minor niggle, but that's not quite true. In the countries that have the 7th seat, the tray we have still folds out from the seat just like ours do; the extra seat folds out from the other side, so both second-row seats have a fold-out item under the cushion. We lose the 7th seat but keep the fold-out console.

Hopefully it's straightforward. In Canada, importing a car from the US has a few requirements:

1. Vehicle cannot be brand new, must be used (some people have bought demo models).
2. Must meet 8km/h (5mph) bumper requirement.
3. Must have non passive seatbelts (don't think they make them anymore anyway).
4. Must have DRL.
5. Must have km/h displayed.
6. Must not be a restricted vehicle as per their website. (VW Golf R32 comes to mind).
7. Must pass provincial safety inspection within 10 days of arrival.

Why not just buy the fold out seat? I bought heated mirrors for my Mazda3 from a dealership in the US. They were a canadian part, not available in the US as an option, but the dealership was able to get them for me.

I'd try to find a canadian dealership that sells parts online, and look at the parts images they have for the seats to see if the fold out seat is an add-on, or only available with the actual seat.

North America never got the fold out seat so you won't find it in Canada or Mexico. You'll have to source the parts in Asia and Europe but it won't be a legal 7th seat meaning you could get a ticket or perhaps have your auto insurance claim denied if someone is using that 7th seat.

To be clear, the Mazda5 is available in manual transmission in all trims in Canada -- but no folding 7th seat. Seems the safety regulations are very harmonized with the US, and the 7th seatbelt doesn't meet North American standards. Importing cars from the US is pretty easy for Canadians -- you need to pay taxes, so I assume importing into the US would be easy enough too.

The Canadian models come in only 2 trims: GS (equivalent to Sport) and GT (equivalent to Grand Touring).

It's not quite a 1-1 features list. No Xenon lights or tire pressure monitors on any trim, 16" wheels and no DSC on the GS, and 6-CD player is not standard even on GT -- comes with Luxury package. Daytime running lights are standard across the board. Probably some other changes I've missed -- but http://www.mazda.ca will give you details.

I just bought a 2010 MZ5 GT black, with tint -- and yes, it is glorious having the full GT ride in manual.

The GT is comparable with the Touring, not Grand Touring. The GT w/ Luxury and NAVI package is almost equivalent to the Grand Touring.
