Subaru Intelligent Drive in 2007 Legacy 2.5 GT spec.B
NEW YORK Subaru unveiled the 2007 Legacy 2.5 GT spec.B performance sedan at the New York International Auto Show on Thursday, with the spotlight on the company's Subaru Intelligent Drive, a new technology that lets the driver choose the level of engine performance.
In addition to the new SI-Drive, the 2007 spec.B also gets a modified version of the six-speed manual transmission from the Impreza WRX STI, a limited-slip rear differential, vehicle dynamics control and a tire-pressure monitoring system.
The SI-Drive system will be standard on all Legacy 2.5 GT Limited and Outback 2.5 XT Limited models for 2007. The system allows the driver to maximize engine performance, control and efficiency by choosing among three selectable modes intelligent, sport and sport sharp using a rotary dial on the center console.
The SI-Drive controls the electronic throttle system's response and fuel and ignition curves to modify engine torque characteristics. With intelligent mode, the system reduces engine torque and maximum power. This mode can boost fuel efficiency by up to 10 percent, the company says. In sport mode, the performance is characterized by quick throttle responses and linear acceleration. In sport sharp mode, power is delivered sooner, with a quick throttle response.
The system includes an instrument panel display that allows the driver to monitor performance.
The spec.B is equipped with a 2.5-liter turbo boxer engine that produces 243 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 241 pound-feet of torque at 3,600 rpm.
What this means to you: Customization of your ride for enthusiasts.
