Odd tire wear.

Don't know where to post this, as I don't post much.... got something to share.

Had an unusual tire wear experience on my P5 couple of days ago. The inner side wall on the driver side tire was wore out like it was out of alignment....(note: only the driver side tire). Well, after hours of head scratching....this is what I figure out. On the first picture, it show the broken plastic guard under the engine through the wheel well. The second show how it would rub on the tire when wind hit the broken guard at hyway speed. Third is what it can happen to your tire and you can barely see it from the front view when tire is mounted.

Ya'll might want to check your tires.

I wonder if that's what happened to my summer tires? I know the alignment was good but the fronts still had massive wear on the insides. I'll check next time the car is up (I'm having no problem with my narrow winter tires).

an alignment with excessive toe out will do that

i'd start with getting the alignment checked

^^ I know, I had it checked when the tires were rotated, the alignment was barely out of spec. Then the tires rotated to the front also showed the same wear pattern. Now, without an alignment, my snow tires (2+ months now) aren't showing the same wear pattern.

you think the splash guard did that? incorrect. There is no way. The speed of the moving tire would have kicked it back away OR ripped it off completely.

Your alignment is terribly off.

Oh...trust me....that's how it happen. I know what an out of alighment car feels like. I'm not an ordinary shade tree machanic.

your summer tires are going to get beat more and heated up more than your winter tires thats why they dont show as bad as your summer kicks will.... lazy tech that just wants your the F*%K out of his shop so hill say anything. been there done that :)
