OBX Header - Sound obtrusive?

With ProtegeGarage's OBX header sale, it's hard not to pull the trigger. 2 questions -

1) Is the sound afterwards loud/droning/annoying? I have a racing beat catback...the sound is great, and I don't really want to add the header if it is going to drone more or sound rough.

2) Is the HP gain noticeable? I've read plenty of "seat of the pants" increases, but haven't seen any real numbers.

Thanks for the help-

The gains are more than "seat of the pants"....It's the best and easiest mod for horsepower...I would not be worried about "droning", no one with the RB cat-back has ever complained...I'd say go for it....get the mid-pipe while you're at it and you'll feel some real gains...

I have just the OBX with a warm air intake. It's not at all obstrusive.

about the midpipes, i plan on getting the OBX from ken, and i know it will get a little louder, but how much more louder is it going to get with the midpipe with or without the cat? is the cat just for emissions? or is it quieter with it?

The cat is for emissions, but also will make it considerably quieter...Straight pipes and N/A just don't go well in my opinion....If you were putting in a turbo back exhaust...no cats sounds pretty nice....

That header combo'd with my Greddy Evo2 and MAM catted pipe is loud as hell, but I'm ok with it, it's the price you have to pay. From what I hear, I own one of the loudest exhaust system combos, so I'll bet you'll do better than I will. But I do like the extra kick at about 4k rpms.

I've got the OBX with MAM catted midpipe and Magnaflow catback, and a friend of mine has OBX, Racing Beat catback and some sort of midpipe which I *think* has a cat... Both of ours sound good, loud without being obnoxiously so, but I do think mine's a hint louder than his. And yes, the gains are definitely noticeable and worth it for the price.

Hope this helps!

So you gain top end power with the header, but do you lose any low end grunt?

What exactly does the midpipe do? How will that help gain power?

Thanks for the replies-

Check the And the Modding has begun thread

with nothing but a CAI and header I really didnt notice a different. Adding a catback exhaust for the full combo did, however.

don't hesitate to ask me any question at any time. i live on this forum so much i should pay rent.

are obx headers better then the other ones? and i found a e bay exhaust 3 inch inner pipe and 4.5 tip so would that give me a lot of power gain??

at this point there aren't many other ones - ractive, wagner and awr are discontinued, there is the thunder header from protephile which i think may cost more and tsudo has fitment issues. even if there were more competition, its hard for the price and performance gain to argue with the obx.

whats the link to this ebay exhaust? that diameter piping and depending on where it begans may cause more harm than good and will be very loud.

Underdrive crank pulley is a nice addition to the header for the low end gain.

i heard a couple people didnt notice any gains from the UDP. how noticable are the gains, if any?

i'll let u know if I feel any difference since my exhaust goes on this saturday. hopefully with the SRI and new exhaust and maybe remove to VTCS i'll notice some considerable gains

Mine's sport auto so I did notice a little quicker revving in the lower rpms, not a ton or anything but enough to notice & scored the unorthodox blue one off ebay with the belt & tool to lock the pulley to get the bolt off for 75.00 shipped. It was worth it to me.

VTCS removal helped a little at higher rpms but most noticeable was the lack of annoying what's about to blow clattering noise which is most appreciated.

my car sounds sick with the ms axleback, mp3 ecu, aem sri, motormounts, and udp. but i am worried about the sound of the obx headers. i want to get it because of the peformance, but i have a feeling my car is going to sound ricey. i dont care about how loud it is, but if it sounds like a big bowl of rice, im probably going to start screaming chinese.(pissed)
